Earlier this week, Kim Merryman from BC Indigenous Housing Society and Jordan Low from Housepost Developments attended the 9th Annual Night of Non-Profit Engagement hosted by GVBOT

The event brought together non-profit organizations, business leaders, and community partners from across Metro Vancouver to explore opportunities for collaboration, volunteerism, and community impact. It was a valuable opportunity to connect with organizations making a difference in our communities and to share conversations about building stronger, more inclusive futures.

Thank you to the organizers for creating a space where meaningful connections can be made and where community leadership continues to be celebrated. We were also pleased to hear from keynote speaker Kate Hammer, who highlighted the important role non-profits play in creating vibrant and resilient communities.

It was an honour to attend the 35th Anniversary celebration of the Face the World Foundation, founded by the remarkable Jacqui Cohen.

For more than three decades, the Foundation has brought together community leaders, philanthropists, and partners to raise funds and awareness for organizations making a meaningful difference in the lives of others, particularly here in Vancouver. It was inspiring to see so many people united around the shared goal of giving back and strengthening our communities.

Congratulations as well to Jacqui’s daughter on her leadership role with the Foundation’s Board of Directors, helping to carry forward a legacy of philanthropy and community impact.

is grateful for the invitation and for the continued partnership and generosity of the Cohen family. As previously announced, we are proud to be working alongside the Cohen family and m on the redevelopment of the former site in Vancouver, an exciting project that will contribute to the future of our city while creating meaningful opportunities and community benefits.

A special thank you to Pam Baker of the Squamish Nation for the beautiful dress, CEO, Brenda Knights wore to the event. The number of compliments it received throughout the evening was a testament to your talent and eye for design Pam!

Thank you to everyone who continues to invest their time, resources, and passion into building stronger communities. Together, we can create lasting impact.

Today, on Blue Jean Jacket Day, we stand in solidarity to honour Missing, Murdered, and Exploited Indigenous Men and Boys (MMIMB).

This day recognizes the fathers, sons, brothers, uncles, friends, and community members whose lives have been taken too soon. It is also a call to action, to raise awareness, seek justice, and address the disproportionate violence experienced by Indigenous men and boys across Canada.

By wearing denim, we remember those who are missing, honour those who have been lost, and stand with families and communities seeking answers.

Every life matters. Every story matters. Every family deserves justice.

🧡 National Indigenous History Month 🧡

June is a time to recognize, celebrate, and learn about the rich histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada.

At BC Indigenous Housing Society, we honour the resilience, strength, and knowledge of Indigenous Peoples and communities. We also acknowledge the importance of truth-telling, reflection, and ongoing reconciliation as we work together to build stronger and more inclusive communities.

Throughout this month, we encourage everyone to take time to listen, learn, and engage with Indigenous voices, stories, and perspectives.

Honouring our past. Celebrating our present. Building our future.

Last week, members of our leadership team, including BCIHS CEO Brenda Knights and COO Alexandra Christian, joined members of our Orwell building team for a meaningful Blanketing Ceremony to honour and support staff following the passing of one of our tenants.

Our frontline teams show up each day with compassion, strength, and care for our residents and the Downtown Eastside community. Their work goes far beyond housing , they create spaces of safety, dignity, and connection for those who need it most.

We are deeply grateful for the dedication, heart, and humanity our teams bring to this work every single day. Thank you to the Orwell team and to all BCIHS staff who continue to support our tenants and communities with kindness and respect.

Today, Brenda Knights spoke at the OAA Conference in Ontario, sharing the story and impact behind the Chief Leonard George Building, a project that continues to gain national attention for its leadership in sustainable housing design.

It was energizing to see the level of interest in the project and the growing conversations happening across Canada around modern methods of construction, resilient housing, and environmentally responsible development. As Canada’s first passive tall timber residential building, the Chief Leonard George Building demonstrates what’s possible when sustainability, performance, and purpose are embedded from the outset.

From an Indigenous perspective, building in a way that respects the environment and reduces long-term impact aligns naturally with Indigenous values of stewardship and responsibility to future generations.

It was also great to connect with Achim Charisius and Michael Wilkison at the conference and to see such strong interest from peers across the country in how this project is influencing resilient and sustainable housing design.

Last week, CEO .knights joined housing leaders, government representatives, developers, and industry experts at the 2026 Vancouver to discuss the future of housing in our communities.

Held at the Fairmont Pacific Rim, the conference brought together voices from across the housing sector to explore innovative solutions, collaboration, and the urgent need for attainable and culturally appropriate housing.

We are proud to see Indigenous housing leadership represented on this important stage and grateful for the opportunity to share the work being done at BCIHS to support Indigenous individuals, families, and communities across British Columbia.

Thank you to the organizers, speakers, sponsors, and everyone who continues to push the conversation forward toward meaningful housing solutions and reconciliation in action.
