At UBC Design League we aim to create interest for the design aspect of engineering through workshops, events, and competitions. Our goal is to host an annual competition called the Designathon, similar to a hackathon, but with a focus on "CADing" instead of coding. Designathons will give students the opportunity to apply their knowledge from the classroom to real industry problems and gain experi

ence in 3D modeling, prototyping, UI/UX, and innovative design. We partner with companies that provide students with interesting challenges to solve and create a connection between recruiters and potential candidates. Winners of UBC's Design League in the 2021 academic year will be invited to compete with winners of the other 15+ National Design League university chapters. Event Overview
Try your hand at creating a unified gaming experience in a fast-paced hackathon style competition. The 3 best submissions will receive a prize!

Just bring a laptop: the competition will use the same browser-based game editor we introduced in the previous events. No technical skills (no coding) required.

All participants will be given the same simple, fully functional game template. It will be up to you to replace the art, sound effects, music, and story with anything you want (any AI tools are completely allowed). Judging will focus on creativity and the gaming experience created by your design decisions, and all participants will receive feedback on their submission.

Here comes the third workshop of the 'Introduction to Game Development' series!!!

In collaboration with the UBC Game Development Club (), we welcome everyone to come learn about creating fun games! Some things you will learn are level planning, balancing challenge and novelty, and maintaining player interest.

No technical skills are required! No coding or specialized software! The entire workshop will be a hands-on demo for everyone to try their hand at game design.

Meet Felix Wilton, a 4th year Mechatronics Major and CS Minor here at UBC. Earlier this year, Felix and his incredible team emerged as champions in our exhilarating game jam. Their innovation, dedication, and creativity caught the eye of industry representatives present at the event.

We're thrilled to share that Felix's performance didn't just earn him accolades, but also a fantastic opportunity. He was offered a coveted position in the world of game development through an internship with one of our industry partners. Felix's journey is a testament to the incredible talent within our UBC Design League community.

But the excitement doesn't stop there! This semester, Felix will be giving back to the community that helped shape his success. He'll be hosting informative sessions on the essentials of game development and game jams. These sessions are perfect for anyone who's curious about stepping into the world of game creation or wants to refine their skills in preparation for our next game jam!

The first workshop will be Tuesday, September 19th at 6:30pm in CEME 1210! We hope to see you there!

If you're looking to channel your innovative skills, put your creativity to work, bring fresh ideas to the table, and enjoy the learning journey, you've found your tribe! **POSITIONS OPEN TO STUDENTS OF ALL YEARS AND DISCIPLINES**

Various lead and executive positions available with time commitment ranging from 1-5 hours/week. There are technical roles in our engineering and game development teams, as well as logistical roles, including marketing, sponsorship and graphic designs. In the entirety of your experience at Design League, you'll have the chance to host events and competitions, work with companies, and of course, bring the Designathon 2024 to life🙌!
