Meet the team at Elk Root Conservation 🌿
This season brings a whole new crew to ERC Farm, working in the integrated food forest, native plant, pollinator and market garden spaces.
Say hello to: Emmalee, Kaitlin, Roz, Eve, Taiya and Bri!
We’re all new this year and learning the rhythms of the land together.🌱🐝
Our work is focused on growing food, supporting biodiversity, and building healthy ecosystems employing ERC's restorative certified organic farming practices, under the guidance and knowledge of Kate and Ryan, who we’re lucky to be learning from!

Today is World Environment Day 🌎
At Elk Root Conservation, we believe protecting the environment starts right here at home — in our forests, watersheds, wildlife corridors, and communities.
Every healthy stream, old-growth tree, pollinator, and wild space plays a role in keeping ecosystems strong for future generations.

One way we support local biodiversity is by growing native plant species that provide food, shelter, and habitat for pollinators and other beneficial insects. These plants are the foundation of healthy ecosystems, supporting everything from bees and butterflies to birds and wildlife 🦋🐝🪲

The good news is that everyone can help. Planting native flowers, shrubs, and trees in your yard, garden, or community space creates valuable habitat and food sources for pollinators while helping restore local ecosystems.

Today, we celebrate the land, the wildlife that depends on it, and the people helping make a difference.

🌱 A beautiful day of learning at Elk Root Conservation 🌱
We loved welcoming students from Winlaw Elementary to the ERC farm for a hands-on food literacy program focused on the connections between healthy ecosystems and healthy food.

Together we explored:
🐝 The importance of pollinators in growing the food we eat
🌎 How healthy soils support thriving plants and ecosystems
🌱 How to seed beets and transplant fennel into the garden

The students also got to taste a variety of fresh spring veggies straight from the farm — including radishes, mizuna, lettuce, and arugula — which they were surprisingly very excited about! Watching kids discover they actually like peppery greens and fresh-picked vegetables was definitely a highlight of the day.

The students got their hands dirty, asked amazing questions, and learned firsthand how much care and biodiversity go into growing food sustainably. Watching young people connect with the land is always one of the most rewarding parts of farm education.

A huge thank you to the students and teachers from Winlaw Elementary for bringing such curiosity and enthusiasm to the ERC farm.

We have full or half season options available and all details are on our website at https://www.elkrootconservation.org/csa it starts next week so sign up now! We only have limited spaces available, first come first served.
