Two fun outings are coming up for seniors in Fernie, Sparwood, and Elkford!

šŸŽ¶ Sat, Nov 21, 7:30pm ā€“ Crash Test Dummies at Key City Theatre, Cranbrook

Getting out, trying something new, and spending time with friends old and new makes a real difference for seniors in our community. These trips are all about fighting social isolation in our community and keeping connections strong. šŸ’›

Transportation is free, generously covered by a United Way BC grant - meals, casino play, shopping, and show tickets are at each participant's own expense.

These trips are offered specifically for seniors in our community, as part of the Elk Valley Better at Home program.

Spots are reservation based only.

What a day! ā˜•šŸŒø On September 9, 52 seniors from Fernie, Sparwood and Elkford boarded the coach for a trip to Waterton Lakes for a splendid afternoon tea at the Prince of Wales Hotel, and it truly was a ā€œfascinator day,ā€ with many guests dressing up for the occasion! Between the mountain scenery, good company, and non-stop chatter, it was a wonderful chance for folks to connect, including some newer community members who got to meet neighbors from across the Elk Valley for the first time.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, your joy made the day. And our deepest gratitude to our partners who helped make it all happen: the Fernie and Sparwood Seniorsā€™ Centers and Tunnel49, whose support was essential in bringing this trip to life. Thank you as well to the Prince of Wales Hotel for the warm hospitality and beautiful, wholesome spread that made everyone feel so special.

This trip was made possible through funding from Columbia Basin Trustā€™s Connect Basin Seniors Program, delivered by United Way BC and Elk Valley Better at Home.

Big news for seniors in the Elk Valley! šŸš Weā€™re launching a transportation program to help seniors stay connected and enjoy more of what our region has to offer, and our first three trips are now confirmed! This program is funded by Columbia Basin Trust and delivered by United Way BC, with a mission to reduce social isolation and remove barriers to getting out and about for seniors across the Basin. Locally, itā€™s brought to life through a partnership between Elk Valley Better at Home, the Seniorsā€™ Drop-In Centers in Fernie and Sparwood and Tunnel49. And hereā€™s the best part : these events are chosen by the seniors in our community. Earlier this year we surveyed 70 members of our community to ask what they actually wanted to do and see, and every trip on this schedule reflects that feedback. This is truly a community-built program, and there is more to come. Take a look at the full schedule below and join us!
