📻 The Bomber Command Museum of Canada’s Radio Collection preserves the technology that kept aircrews connected during the Second World War. From navigation and weather reports to distress signals and communication with ground stations, these radios played a vital role in the survival of bomber crews. ✈️

Today, the museum restores and operates many of these historic systems, allowing visitors to hear and experience the voices and sounds of wartime aviation. 🍁

✈️ From a Lancaster beside Highway #2 to the Bomber Command Museum of Canada we know today — our story began in 1985.

The Nanton Lancaster Society was officially incorporated in 1986, with the goal of preserving Lancaster FM159 and creating a museum around it. In 1987, the first Open Bomber Day welcomed the public aboard the Lancaster, and in 1991, our first museum building was completed. 🏗️

As the collection grew, so did the museum. In 2010, the Nanton Lancaster Society officially became the Bomber Command Museum of Canada. 🍁

✈️ This week’s "Artifact of the Week"!

The Canadair CT-114 Tutor was Canada’s primary jet trainer from 1963 to 2000 and also served with the Canadian Forces Snowbirds. 🍁

Our Tutor #177 was acquired from CFB Mountainview in 2005. Museum members Peter and Paul Whitfield, along with volunteers Mike Berry and Brad Fraser, helped prepare the aircraft for its journey to Nanton. Volunteer Maurice Galli then beautifully restored and painted it as Snowbird #4 before it officially joined our collection in 2006.

Today, it helps preserve the story of Canadian military aviation, the Snowbirds, and the generations of pilots who trained in the Tutor. ❤️✈️

A wonderful example of what dedicated volunteers can accomplish in preserving Canada’s aviation heritage!

Lancaster FM159 is the centerpiece of the Bomber Command Museum of Canada, where it helps preserve the legacy of Bomber Command and Canada's role in the Second World War.

As the world's only Lancaster bomber open for supervised interior tours, it has provided veterans, their families, and visitors with a unique place to remember, reflect, and reconnect with history.

Former aircrew, ground crew, factory workers, students, cadets, and thousands of visitors have shared unforgettable moments beneath its wings.
Through exhibits, ceremonies, and personal stories, FM159 continues to educate future generations while honouring the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who served.
