Jumbo Wild

Jumbo Wild Keep Jumbo Valley Wild Forever! For more than 25 years, the Jumbo Glacier Resort (JGR) has been proposed in the upper Jumbo Valley.

JGR would encompass 6500 hectares, accessing 4 glaciers with more than 20 ski lifts and would operate year-round. The resort village would host more than 6500 beds. The people of the East Kootenays have been united in opposition to this resort since it was first proposed. Set in the heart of British Columbia's Central Purcell Mountains, the Jumbo Valley provides critical habitat for grizzly bears

and other roaming wildlife, moving north and south along the mountains, and crossing the international border to feed the endangered grizzly population in the US Cabinet Mountains. Teeming with ski resorts already operating under capacity, the East Kootenays do not need another ski resort, least of all one in the middle of the wilderness and critical wildlife habitat! Jumbo Wild is a campaign of Wildsight.

Some call the proposed Zincton ski resort, Jumbo 2.0. A proposed 4-season resort in the Central Selkirks (near New Denver), the resort would span 5500 hectares in grizzly and wolverine habitat. The BC government has decided the resort doesn't require an environmental assessment as part of it's review, but many - including local municipalities and numerous First Nations - feel otherwise. Wildsight has filed a petition in court to judicially review the decision not to require an environmental assessment for this development.

Wildsight has filed a petition in the BC Supreme Court seeking a judicial review of the provincial government’s decision not to require an environmental assessment for the proposed Zincton All-Season Resort.

An update for those who've been following the Zincton resort proposal — another developer trying to build a ski resort in important grizzly bear habitat.

Last month, British Columbia decided this 5,500-hectare development in the central Selkirks won't need to undergo an environmental assessment. Check out the story on Wildsight's website below for more information.

In late July, after almost 18 months of deliberating, the B.C. government decided to bypass an environmental assessment for a proposed new ski resort in the province’s spectacular Selkirk Mountains. Instead, the 5,500-hectare Zincton development will be reviewed by the government’s Mountain Reso...

There have been many champions of Jumbo Wild over the 30 year campaign, but perhaps none as passionate, committed and unwavering as Jim Galloway. Jim passed away early this month and we are filled with gratitude for all he contributed and all he was. The world feels a bit crazy right now, but one thing is for sure: the world needs more people like Jim.

All who knew and loved Jim are welcome to join and celebrate his life on July 8, 4pm at the Radium Community Hall.
