Look! Some of the earliest newspapers in our county, thankfully preserved and lent for scanning by Pat Campbell. Her care and generousity means that they are now available for all on the Haliburton Highlands Newspaper Archives website!

EXTRA, EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT! 📰

Our three most recent additions to the archives represent the three oldest newspapers in our collection to date. These 1884, 1885 & 1886 Minden Echos were made available to us thanks to Pat Campbell from Minden.

If you have old Haliburton County Newspapers, we’d love to add them to the collection! Go to hhda.ca to find out how.

The scan quality of these three newspapers is substandard but we will have them professionally scanned during the next phase of our project and will update with the enhanced scans when complete. We couldn’t wait to share them with you.

You can view the three papers our using this link.

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, when we honour the children who never returned home and the Survivors of residential schools, this website provides an opportunity to learn about the tragic history and ongoing impacts of the residential schools.

The NCTR is a place of learning and dialogue where the truths of the residential school experience will be honoured and kept safe for future generations.
