Great news!! Becca has been adopted.
She has been with us since early in the summer, waiting patiently. Now Becca has chosen a human and gone to her forever home.
We'll miss you Becca!!

This may look like a lot of food, but it will disappear quickly due to the continuing large number of kittens (and cats) at the LAWS shelter. We continue to see a large number of stray or unwanted cats and kittens arriving. Last Friday alone, we took in 14... with one appearing to be quite pregnant.

While your Thanksgiving is wrapping up, our Catsgiving Food Drive will continue into November. In addition to feeding our little friends, we ensure they receive any necessary medical treatment. Before they can be adopted, all the cats and kittens are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

Please show your support for the Lanark Animal Welfare Society and our vulnerable clients. Food or monetary donations can be made at the shelter, Monday to Saturday, from 11am to 4pm. You can also make cash donations from the comfort of home by clicking "Donate Now" on our home page at lanarkanimals.ca or by calling us during open hours at 613-283-9308. Thank you to those who are regular donors and those who have recently reached out to help.

Happy Caturday from Mario, Luigi and Toad. This trio was born in late July and came to us as strays after being found in the area.

These guys know that orange cats can be VERY popular for adoptions... and wanted to give everyone a heads-up that they'll be ready soon. You may notice that one of the brothers came out on the losing end of a minor family tussle. His nose will be fine.

You can learn about the Lanark Animal Welfare Society's adoption process at lanarkanimals.ca. All animals adopted through LAWS have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

You can drop by the shelter at 253 Glenview Road, just outside Smiths Falls, to meet a potential new best friend (or friends). We have many looking for a furever home. We're open to the public Monday to Saturday, from 11am to 4pm. We will be closed this Monday for Thanksgiving.

The cats and kittens want you to know that the LAWS shelter is open to the public on Saturday, October 10th. We will be closed, as usual, on Sunday and will also be closed to the public on Thanksgiving Day, Monday, October 12th.

Staff members and volunteers are in the shelter seven days a week and 365 days a year, caring for our temporary residents.

We invite you to learn more about LAWS and how you can help us help the animals. Visit lanarkanimals.ca.

Today’s Fun Fact Friday is regarding black cats and the superstitions they bring about for the month of October. Did you know that black cats are thought to be good luck charms and symbolize good fortune in some cultures? In Scotland having a black cat show up at your door is meant to symbolize imminent good fortune is coming your way. Whereas, in Japan a black cat symbolizes prosperity for business owners. Next time you see a black cat don’t be afraid it may mean luck is coming your way. 🐈‍⬛🐾

Your donations of food or money are still needed, as the LAWS Catsgiving Food Drive continues. Thank you to those who have already made a cash donation through our website or sent food.

We are working to stock the shelter's shelves for winter, while continuing to take in kittens and cats. We are looking for canned food, specifically Friskies, including pate for our littlest guests. Monetary donations can help purchase food and cover vet visits.

Donations can be made by clicking the "donate now" button on our home page at lanarkanimals.ca or by calling us at 613-283-9308.

We invite you to visit the shelter at 253 Glenview Road, just outside Smiths Falls. You can meet some amazingly lovely little friends, make a donation or drop off food, and perhaps find the one who will be your furever friend.

Happy Catsgiving!!!

Meet MINA!
She is an absolute shining star here at LAWS. Playful, curious and a bit of a door dasher, who loves to explores the hallway and beyond. So many nooks and crannies to investigate!

If you look closely though you will see she has a weepy eye. This has been checked by our vets and it is believed to be a blocked tear duct that she has been born with or scar tissue caused by an injury. She may grow out of it or she may need to see an ophthalmologist down the road. It is not contagious.

We are hoping someone will come, scoop her up and take her home soon.

If you would like to meet this little angel (and adopt her!) 🙂 Drop in or contact us for an appointment.

Two kittens were located in a puddle by Smiths Falls Animal Control on Wednesday night and were taken to a local vet. They kittens were tiny, wet and very cold.

Sadly, one did not survive. The other, now named Gobble, has arrived at the LAWS shelter where we are working to have a surrogate mother adopt Gobble.

We now watch, wait and encourage the baby to latch on to his substitute mother... with bottle feeding on standby as an option. Animal Control Officers did locate a female cat in the same area on Thursday morning, but she has no interest in the kitten.

This is the kind of story of heartbreak and joy we see regularly at the shelter. Learn more about the Lanark Animal Welfare Society and our mission at lanarkanimals.ca.

We ask for your support for our work by making a donation on the website by clicking "donate now" on the homepage. You can also donate in person at the shelter, located at 253 Glenview Road, just outside Smiths Falls. You can also visit some of our cats and kittens while you're here. Donations can also be made by phone, between 11am and 4pm, Monday to Saturday, at 613-283-9308.
