Three officers. Three different organizations. The same devastating mental health crisis.
Behind each uniform was a person. A colleague. A friend. Someone’s family. Someone who dedicated their life to serving others.
Different patches. Different agencies. The same loss.
We can talk about mental health. We can create policies, programs and wellness initiatives. But when mental health and wellness become boxes to check instead of commitments backed by meaningful action, we will continue to lose good people.
Three officers should make us stop and ask whether what we are doing is actually working.
I am proud to be part of Driving Foreward and the Alberta First Responders Association because we believe the person must come before the uniform.
People first. Mental health first.
To everyone still serving, retired, or carrying something behind the uniform that nobody else can see: your value has never been defined by your badge, your rank, your organization, or how much you can endure.
To the three officers we have lost, rest easy.
Different uniforms. One community. Three lives that mattered. ❤️💙
