Those of us lucky enough to know Moira Mooney are shattered by her sudden passing on Sunday evening. Moira played a leading role in the early life of The Bridge Hospice. Part of the first wave of resident care volunteers, she was all-in from the start. The hospice home shone brighter when she was here.

A founding member of the Volunteer Coordinating Team, she helped wrangle us into a close-knit crew, moving forward and together, fueled by her famously strong coffee and yummy banana bread. Though she rarely spoke of it, Moira had an impressive professional background in retail management, and the Hospice reaped the rewards of her experience and wisdom.

She was highly intelligent and open-minded and stayed curious. With her wry wit, she was a keen observer of human foibles including her own, and stayed on the bright side of life. She had a heart of gold, offering to help anyone in need. It’s telling that many family members would ask after “the Scottish lady,” long after they’d moved on with their lives. She was a very deserving recipient of the June Callwood Circle of Outstanding Volunteers Award. Moira was one-of-a-kind.

We are still grappling with the news, and send our heartfelt condolences to her beloved family in Cobourg and Glasgow.

Look at this adorable snowflake!

But don’t be fooled. Young Isla is a fierce competitor and skating machine! She’ll be a blur at this Saturday’s Skate-a-thon for The Bridge Hospice. Look out Doug Runions!

Isla has set up her own fundraising page, joining the Platinum Blades’ efforts – which means Dr. Kelly Parks will be doubling any donation made to Isla’s page. Who can say no to this face?

Remember, 2:45 pm at the Sunny Wellness Centre for the Platinum Blades’ performance.

Then 3—4:00 pm for skating and fundraising. Join us, please donate if you can!

BRIGHTON CLOTHING & TREASURES (formerly Brighton Clothing Depot) is an incredible all-volunteer thrift & consignment shop at 101 Applewood Drive. These folks raise funds for many community causes by recycling quality garments & treasures and offering them at very affordable prices for their customers. Everybody wins! It’s a massive undertaking, and the volunteers never fail to make the magic happen. The Bridge Hospice has received another very generous donation from this wonderful organization. Thank you one & all at Brighton Clothing & Treasures!
Ho ho ho! 🎅🏻

A Graceland-size thank you to everyone involved with this autumn evening of hip-shaking hits and sentimental serenades – with proceeds to Campbellford Memorial Hospital and The Bridge Hospice. We’re grateful to the star performers Paul Thain & Berry Chumbley who donated their considerable talents. We tip our hats to Branch 380’s hard-working volunteers Karen, Terry & crew for all the behind-the-scene efforts, and of course to the fans. We remember Pat Lowe and Carolyn Lee, both gone too soon. Thank you everyone, we appreciate the support.

A big RV-sized THANK-YOU to the wonderful campers at PRESTON SPRINGS PARK, Hastings, for an astounding donation of $865.75! Kailyn & Hannah Coupland stopped by with proceeds from the campers' annual fundraiser, which this year honoured the memory of Al Preston, whom we were privileged to care for at The Bridge Hospice. Thank you to everyone who contributed, and what a pleasure to meet these two. 😀
