The annual Clothesline Project event will take place this year on Tuesday, April 28 from 11am to 2pm on the Trail Ferraro Foods patio near the store entrance.
As in past years, the day will include a display of colourful, locally created T-shirts bearing anti-violence messages and a free barbecue lunch. The event will also offer an opportunity for interested residents to talk with local service providers about the issue of violence against women, support services, safety planning and prevention.
The Trail Area VAWIR (Violence Against Women in Relationships) Inter-Agency Committee organizes the annual public event as a way to help raise awareness about domestic and other forms of violence that disproportionately affects women and their children. It gives community members a chance to see a thought-provoking display created by local residents affected by domestic abuse who want to anonymously tell their stories and to share messages of hope for peaceful change.
The Trail Area VAWIR Committee wishes to thank Ferraro Foods for once again generously donating the display space and lunch supplies. The Committee includes representatives from local agencies including the RCMP and RCMP Victim Services, Mental Health & Substance Use Services (MHSU), , Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD), IHA’s SAFE (Sexual Assault Forensic Exam) program, The Lower Columbia Community Health Centre and several Trail FAIR programs including the WINS Transition House, Women’s Counselling and Community Based Victim Services.
