TFD was called out to a fire along the railway tracks east of Torquay at 4:06 this afternoon. Wildland and Tender were dispatched members put the fire out without damage to the tracks or rail ties. Members returned and were back in service at 5:40.We must stress the importance of calling in controlled burns. Vehicles passing may not understand the situation and we end up being called out. Our Fire index thankfully has been reduced to high and not extreme conditions right now. Controlled burns in Saskatchewan, including agricultural stubble burning and ecological management, must be reported to the Provincial Controlled Burn Line at 1-866-404-4911 (available 24/7) to avoid unnecessary fire department responses. You will be asked some basic information.

As a precaution if you have burned anything the last while check on those areas as this wind can do amazing things. Just found a spot that was burnt 2 weeks ago and this wind as reignited a spot and is smoldering.

Today mark’s one of the first days of this spring, where Fire behaviour could be intense. Grasses are extremely dry already and with the wind and days becoming warmer it is going to intesify
Be aware and have a plan if you are doing a controlled burn and remember to report your controlled burn beforehand
