On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we remember the children who never came home, honour survivors and their families, and recognize the ongoing impact of residential schools.

Through her original song Little Angels, Voices Rock Canada founder and president Cheryl Bower, co-written with Susan O’Quinn, reminds us that although gone, these children are never forgotten.

May this song inspire remembrance, awareness, kindness, and continued action. 🧡

🧡 Today, Voices Rock Canada joins Canadians in observing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. We honour residential school survivors, remember the children who never came home, and recognize the lasting impact on Indigenous communities and generations.

Inspired by Phyllis Webstad’s story, the orange shirt is a symbol of the loss of identity, culture, and belonging experienced by Indigenous children.

Reconciliation is an ongoing responsibility. Today, and every day, we commit to listening, learning, and remembering that every child matters. 🧡

🎵 ON THIS DAY: SEPTEMBER 22, 1969 🎵

The Band released their self-titled second album, The Band (also known as The Brown Album), which peaked at No. 9 on the U.S. Billboard chart and featured classics including “Rag Mama Rag,” “Up on Cripple Creek” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.” Blending rock, country, folk, blues and gospel, the album became a landmark of roots rock and Americana. In 2009, it was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Recording Registry for its cultural, historical and aesthetic significance. 🎶🇨🇦
