To be a senior requires courage, dedication and resilience. It means pushing through even when your body no longer functions as it once did,and when your memory doesn't recall things as quickly as before. Yet, despite these challenges, seniors continue to show strength, wisdom, and perseverance every single day..

It is crucial for children to visit their parents, particularly as they age, given the parents' significant sacrifices and hard work for their benefit, yet many are now being neglected through lack of visits and calls.

As our population ages, more seniors are choosing to age in place, remaining in their own homes and communities rather than moving into institutional care. For many older adults, home represents independence.

For aging in place to work well, communities often need supportive services such as accessible housing, transportation, home care, and social programs for seniors.

Remaining in one's own home allows seniors to maintain control over daily routines , meals, schedules, and lifestyle choices. This independence often contributes to a stronger sense of dignity and self -worth.

E-bikes are becoming a serious nuisance in our neighbourhoods, particularly those being used for food delivery on sidewalks. Sidewalks are meant for pedestrians-not motorized vehicles.

For many seniors and individuals using wheelchairs or motorized aids, there is no ability to "just move out the way ".These bikes are fast and nearly silent, creating a real safety hazard. What may feel like an obstacle course to a rider is,for others, the only safe space they have to navigate the city.

We need stronger enforcement of existing bylaws, clearer regulations around e-bike use,and greater accountability from delivery platforms whose business model rely on speed.

Pedestrian safety-especially for our most vulnerable residents-must come first.
SIdewalks should remain safe, accessible, and predictable for those who depend on them.

The fastest growing age group in Canada today is people over 75. According to Statistics Canada, this demographic is expanding faster than any other.

Living longer is a blessing. It reflects better heathcare and stronger communities.
But it also means our health and care systems adapt. There will be greater demand for home care, hospital services, and caregiver support.

As seniors,we have an important role to play.

We can stay proactive about our health, plan ahead for future needs, stay socially connected, and more importantly-use our collective voice to advocate for better services and age-friendly communities.

This is not about being a burden. It's about ensuring that longer life also means better quality of life.

Let's support one another and make sure our later years are lived with dignity, independence and care.

The aging population is having a direct effect on the health and social care sector by increasing demand, stretching resources and forcing systems to quickly adapt. As people live longer, there is a higher prevalence of chronic illnesses such as dementia, diabetes, heart disease, and mobility issues, all of which requires ongoing, coordinated care rather than short-term treatment. This places sustained pressure on hospitals, long-term care facilities, and community support.Overall,an aging population is reshaping health and social care-shifting the focus toward preventative care,aging-in-place, integrated services, and stronger community-based systems.Without these adaptions, gaps in care and inequities will continue to widen.
