‼️Food insecurity is no longer a hidden issue in Canada.
What’s still missing is the infrastructure to fix it. And where do we start?

We start with children. 💚

The Food Security Fund, an initiative of (SBC), was created because we have seen firsthand how food insecurity continues to disproportionately impact Black children, especially in Ontario.

Over the past three years, through our work supporting Black-led and Black-serving organizations, SBC has witnessed the growing strain on our communities: rising food costs, inconsistent access, and food programs operating without the systems needed to respond at scale. Children feel these gaps first.

💡The challenge is not a lack of care or commitment.
It’s a lack of infrastructure and a sustainable pipeline.

That’s why "Building the Foundation Children Deserve" is our response.

We’ve listened closely to the people on the front lines of Black-led food programs. What they’ve told us is clear: without strong operational capacity, even the most committed organizations struggle to serve children consistently.

That’s why this campaign starts with the basics that make food access dependable:
🚚 Building skilled operations and logistics teams
📦 Securing equipment for storage, delivery, and meal preparation
🧑🏾‍🤝‍🧑🏾 Investing in mobility, including trucks that support consistent food distribution

This foundation allows Black-led organizations to coordinate, grow, and serve children without interruption when systems fall short.

In 2026, we are choosing to build the foundation first, so Black children are not left waiting.

💚 Join us in building the foundation children deserve.

✨ The holidays are over.
But hunger didn’t pack up and leave with the decorations.

January is the month of resolutions, fresh starts, and new commitments. Yet for too many families, especially Black families, winter brings harder choices, tighter budgets, and empty lunch bags.

Here’s why January reminds us that food security must be a year-long commitment 👇🏾

1️⃣ Poverty Awareness Month (All January)
Food insecurity is not a seasonal issue. It’s rooted in income gaps, rising costs, and systemic inequities that don’t reset with the calendar.

2️⃣ Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan 19)
Dr. King spoke openly about economic justice. Access to food, dignity, and opportunity are civil rights issues, not charity.

3️⃣ International Day of Education (Jan 24)
Children can’t focus, learn, or thrive on an empty stomach. Education and nutrition are inseparable, especially during long winter months.

4️⃣ Bell Let’s Talk Day - Mental Health in Canada (Jan 28)
Food insecurity takes a toll on mental health. Stress, anxiety, and uncertainty increase when families don’t know where the next meal is coming from.

❄️ Winter Hardship
January is one of the most difficult months for food access. Costs rise. Donations slow. Needs increase.

The truth is this:
💡Ending hunger isn’t a holiday tradition. It’s a commitment we make every day of the year.

That’s why the Food Security Fund (an initiative of Support Black Charities) is building Canada’s first Black-led Food Supply Chain, a long-term infrastructure of support designed to strengthen food programs beyond the holidays and into every season.

😊 Every donation helps turn intention into action.

🚨 Here’s what most people don’t realize...
You can’t solve hunger with food alone.
Not without the people, partnerships, and pipeline to get it where it’s needed most.

This Giving Season🎄🎁, we’re not just raising funds.
We’re building a team of experts, a foundation for scale, and a Black-led infrastructure that tackles food insecurity where it starts.

🎯 Your donation helps us:
➡️ Build a skilled team to manage and grow sustainable food infrastructure
➡️ Establish partnerships with frontline food programs serving equity-deserving communities
➡️ Develop real, scalable solutions for distribution, education, and the food pipeline
➡️ Strengthen access systems that meet today’s challenges, not just ideal plans

🧡 And if you give monthly? You help us plan, grow, and consistently feed more families.

We’re in the groundwork phase. The most important stage.
Because without infrastructure, hunger wins no matter how much food exists.

💛 The Holidays reveal how deeply many families are struggling, and it reinforces exactly why the Food Security Fund must build long-term, year-round solutions

🎄🎁 The Giving Season reminds us that generosity is not a moment.
It is a commitment to each other.

A reminder that when communities step up, children eat, families breathe easier, and frontline food organizations can keep doing the work that keeps us all whole.

Hunger is not a personal failure.
It is a systems issue that requires community solutions, shared resources, and collective courage.

This is exactly why the Food Security Fund exists to build local, long-term food security for Black communities and families across Ontario.

This December, we are asking you to turn:
❤️ awareness into compassion
🤝 compassion into generosity
🚀 and generosity into action

Because action is what protects the right to food.
Action is what strengthens the villages, raising our children.
Action is how we build the food system our communities deserve.

✨ December brings out our generosity, but it also makes an invisible crisis impossible to ignore.

‼️ During a month built around meals, gatherings, and celebration, food insecurity becomes even more visible… and more painful.

For many underserved, marginalized, and racialized families, the giving season highlights the gap between what the season promises and what their reality allows.

Here’s why December calls us to act together 👇🏾

1️⃣ International Day of Persons with Disabilities (Dec 3)
Disability and food insecurity are deeply connected. Barriers to mobility, income, and access make nutrition harder — and food is a right.

2️⃣ International Volunteer Day (Dec 5)
Volunteers are the backbone of school meal programs, food banks, and community kitchens. Sharing food is one of the most powerful expressions of care.

3️⃣ Human Rights Day (Dec 10)
Food is a human right. Yet thousands of children, especially Black and racialized children, still go to school hungry.

4️⃣ End-of-Year Giving Season
As many gather around full tables, others face empty cupboards. This is our moment to extend the warmth of the season to families who need it most.

5️⃣ Kwanzaa (Dec 26–Jan 1)
A celebration of unity, shared work, and shared prosperity, values that mirror the mission of the Food Security Fund.

The truth is simple: hunger does not pause for holidays, and no child’s well-being should depend on the season.

That’s why the Food Security Fund is building Canada’s first Black-led Food Supply Chain, a long-term infrastructure of support that includes:
✔️ community kitchens
✔️ a mobile kitchen truck
✔️ storage & refrigeration
✔️ culturally aligned vendor partnerships
✔️ logistics & distribution
✔️ dedicated staffing

All designed to strengthen existing food programs, reduce pressure on schools, and ensure underserved children are never left behind.

💡 Every donation fuels this plan.

🍁October is a month of abundance, harvest tables, family dinners, and giving thanks. But for too many, it’s a reminder of what’s missing.

🌾 True gratitude isn’t just saying “thank you,” it’s making sure everyone has a seat at the table, literally!

Here’s why October is the month to turn gratitude into action 👇🏾

1️⃣ Thanksgiving in Canada (Oct 14) — a time to gather, reflect, and share. But in many homes, the table is empty.

2️⃣ World Food Day (Oct 16) — the 2025 theme is "Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future." This global day highlights sustainable food systems. Yet millions in Canada, especially Black families, still struggle with food insecurity.

3️⃣ National Food Day (USA – Oct 24) — celebrating good food and those who grow it reminds us how vital access, equity, and sustainability are across borders.

4️⃣ Harvest Season — a time of plenty, but also of inequity. Not everyone benefits equally from Canada’s abundance.

5️⃣ End-of-Year Giving Season Begins — as we reflect on gratitude, it’s also a chance to give back and build something that lasts.

The truth is, food insecurity doesn’t take holidays.

That’s why the Food Security Fund is raising funds to build Canada’s 1st Black-led Food Supply Chain, an infrastructure of support to complement existing programs, ease pressure on schools, and ensure underserved children aren’t left behind.

💭 To end food insecurity, we have to look at what’s missing.

What’s missing is a central network, a system that connects the entire food chain within the Black community.

🍎 The Food Security Fund exists to build that system.

Canada’s first Black-led food supply chain designed to make nutritious food accessible and affordable for people who need it most.

We’re raising funds to build an INFRASTRUCTURE OF SUPPORT that includes:
✅ Facility for storage, meal prep, and education
✅ Compliant trucks for distribution, meal prep and logistics
✅ A collaborative network prioritizing Black-led and Black-serving farmers, producers, manufacturers, and vendors, while partnering with allies and industry stakeholders
✅ A managed pipeline that keeps food flowing every day

This is how we turn generosity into lasting systems, not temporary fixes.

We’re building relationships, partnerships, and capacity that have the potential to sustain communities for generations.

💚 Be part of building what’s been missing.

❓ If food banks were enough, why does food insecurity keep growing?

❓ What if solving hunger means going beyond emergency relief to fix the system itself?

📣 Food banks are essential for urgent relief — we need them.
But they cannot solve food insecurity on their own.

The deeper causes remain:
✔ Unstable income
✔ Insecure housing
✔ Limited access to affordable, nutritious food

🌍 Why it matters
Hunger impacts people differently.

Black communities and Black children especially face some of the highest rates of food insecurity in Canada.

Real solutions must:
✔ Target who is most affected
✔ Tackle the root causes
✔ Close gaps across the food system, from farms to distribution, vendors, grocery stores, restaurants, and even waste

💪 That’s why the Food Security Fund exists.
We are building Canada’s first Black-led food supply chain and infrastructure of support.

🔥 If you’re the type of person who needs a narrative to act, here it is.
September is the time to turn awareness into action on food insecurity.

Here’s why 👇🏾

1️⃣ Back-to-School 🍎 — exciting for many, but stressful for parents stretched by rising costs. Too many kids are showing up with empty stomachs. 1 in 3 children in Canada start the school day hungry (Breakfast Club of Canada, 2025).

2️⃣ Hunger Action Month (September) 📅— hunger isn’t just about food. It’s about kids who can’t focus, parents carrying guilt, and schools struggling to keep up.

3️⃣ National Food Bank Day (September 5) 🥫 — a reminder of the critical role food banks play, even as they face rising demand.

4️⃣ Hunger Action Day (September 13) 💪🏾 — a moment for all of us to stop, reflect, and commit to real change, not just talk.

[Bonus Reason] International Day of Charity (September 5) 💝 — a chance to recognize the whole charity ecosystem: frontline workers, beneficiaries, and supporters. The spirit of charity is what we need to turn compassion into action.

The truth is, current food programs can’t keep up with the demand.

That’s why the Food Security Fund is raising funds to build Canada’s 1st Black-led Food Supply Chain, an infrastructure of support with kitchens, trucks, storage, vendor partnerships, logistics, and staff.

This will:
✅ Ease pressure on schools
✅ Complement existing food programs
✅ Ensure underserved children are not left behind
