Bob Marley is an International Icon whose message of peace, love and unity has captured the world. It is symbolic that for the past 22 years, Toronto has officially declared FEBRUARY 6TH as Bob Marley Day in the city of Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. Bob Marley Day began in 1991 with the 1st proclamation made by the former mayor of Toronto, Mayor Art Eggleton. Bob Marley was able to reach, not only people from his native country of Jamaica but countless others with different ethnicities, backgrounds, beliefs and socio-economic status. His profoundly powerful messages resonated deeply through the notes and lyrics of his many songs. This day is not only a day to celebrate a great man but also a day to recognize our own modern day greats....individuals in our city who embody the spirit of the man we celebrate, both personally and professionally in our communities and beyond. Awards, entertainment and a reception traditionally being held inside Toronto City Hall every year this year will continue on with the announcement of even bigger things to come next year. Bob Marley Day is for all proud people of Toronto to celebrate the feeling of "One Love"!
