At this year’s OANDCon26: IGNITE, we’re excited to recognize the Naturopathic Doctors whose leadership, dedication, and impact continue to move our profession forward.

We’re proud to congratulate Dr. Emma Pollon-MacLeod, ND, on being nominated for the Excellence in Naturopathic Medicine Award! Known for bridging conventional and naturopathic medicine, she has built strong relationships with specialists across Ottawa, organized events with obstetricians and medical doctors, and created shared frameworks for integrative care. Her nominator describes her as someone who opens doors for the profession, not just for her own patients.

Stay tuned: winners will be announced at OANDCon26 on October 2 at the Toronto Congress Centre. Haven’t registered yet? Secure your spot through the link in bio.

This session gives NDs practical frameworks for compliant interprofessional collaboration in Ontario, covering referral pathways, shared care, scope of practice, and documentation when working with MDs, NPs, and other regulated providers. It may run as a workshop or multi-provider panel, blending applied tools with real-world clinical insight on building sustainable collaborative relationships.

Presented by Dr. Tracy-Lynn Reside, MSc., ND. Sponsored by ONIN.

09/13/2026

Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Naturopathic Doctors are the only three regulated professions in Ontario authorized to assess, diagnose, and independently treat across multiple organ systems.

In the past two years, Nurse Practitioners have seen real scope modernization: expanded authority, new funding models, and a seat at the primary care planning table.

Naturopathic Doctors hold that same core diagnostic authority, yet haven’t seen a meaningful regulatory update in over a decade.

That’s why OAND is advocating for scope modernization for NDs, including expanded prescribing authority, integration into primary care teams, and funding models that reflect the role NDs already play in Ontario’s health system.

Same qualifications. Same responsibility to patients. It’s time the policy caught up.

Digestive symptoms like bloating, reflux, and constipation often signal deeper systemic issues such as fatigue, hormone imbalance, and inflammation, and this session equips NDs with functional medicine tools, including patient health timelines, to identify root causes and build targeted treatment strategies. Through case-based discussion, it also explores collaborative care opportunities with nurse practitioners for complex cases requiring medical screening, advanced diagnostics, or prescription therapies.

Presented by Megan Kroeker, NP, IFMCP. Sponsored by Integrative Laboratories Services.

61% of Ontarians would choose a Naturopathic Doctor if they could prescribe more medications.

That demand is especially strong in hormonal and menopause care, where NDs already have the training but not the full authority to act on it.

Ontarians are telling us exactly what kind of care they want. Expanding ND prescribing authority means giving them access to it, and giving Ontario the healthcare system it deserves.

Migraines, endometriosis, POTS, insulin resistance, digestive dysfunction, infertility, and fatigue may share a common root in impaired vascular signalling and endothelial dysfunction, often preceding formal dyslipidemia/hypertension diagnoses by years. This presentation reframes these conditions through a vascular/microcirculatory lens, covering nitric oxide biology, inflammatory vascular injury, autonomic and mitochondrial factors, and nutraceutical strategies for earlier intervention.

Presented by Dr. Sarah Wilson, ND. Sponsored by Designs for Health.

Thyroid disease hits women hardest. Naturopathic Doctors are trained for exactly this: hormonal health, metabolic function, chronic disease management.

So why can Naturopathic Doctors in BC prescribe levothyroxine, a foundational thyroid medication, while Naturopathic Doctors in Ontario still can’t?

Same education. Same training. Different rules. And Ontario patients are the ones paying for the gap.

It’s time to close it.

This session shows how comprehensive lab testing (blood, urine, and bioimpedance) goes beyond diagnostics to reveal the metabolic, inflammatory, and hormonal “leverage points” behind complex conditions, using four patient cases to demonstrate targeted treatment planning. It also highlights how lab results can boost patient buy-in and accountability, helping practitioners improve outcomes in chronic and treatment-resistant cases.

Presented by Dr. Michelle Durkin, ND. Sponsored by LifeLabs.

“I’d rather get more of my care from you.”

That’s what 90%* of Naturopathic Doctors say their patients have told them, directly.

The demand for this kind of care is already here in Ontario. Patients are asking for it. What’s missing isn’t willingness, it’s regulatory permission.

NDs are ready to do more. It’s time the system caught up.
