Toronto Queer Film Festival

Toronto Queer Film Festival Accepting film submissions + symposium proposals until March 9! TQFF is a volunteer-run, artist-centered festival that is entirely supported by donations.

The Toronto Q***r Film Festival showcases contemporary, innovative, q***r and trans film and video art. We are especially interested in supporting formally experimental films and/or social justice themed projects that center the experiences of Indigenous people, people of color, people with disabilities, transgender people, s*x workers, p**n makers, and other communities often marginalized in contemporary LGBT cultural programming and spaces. There are no submission fees, and proceeds from the festival will be prioritized to pay artists screening fees at or above the IMAA and CARFAC minimum rates.

We’re proud and thrilled to present at three film programs curated by the emerging, 2SLGBTQ+ Indigenous programmers from our Indigenous Moving Image Mentorship Program, in partnership with ICCA | Indigenous Curatorial Collective 💚

🎬 Iqqaumajut – They Remember | Oct 14 at 5:30PM
✨Curated by Isaac Partridge
Shot at home and in community, this program’s 2-Spirit and Indigeq***r filmmakers touch on remembrance in many ways: who they are, their cultures, families, communities, the land and land stewardship, water – and even in the act of forgetting. Followed by a Q&A.

🎬 Breaking the Lens | Oct 15 at 5PM
✨ Curated by Billy Parrell
This ensemble of contemporary stories reclaim and diversify what it means to be Indigenous on-screen. Pulling together themes of language, humour, and performance, they push back against trauma narratives to explore Indigiq***r joy and radical embodiment. Featuring live performances before the screening!

🎬 Thresholds | Oct 16 at 5:30PM
✨ Curated by Dan Cardinal McCartney
This program showcases experimental film, animation, and short art-house works which explore dreams, surrealism, and memory from diverse Indigenous and q***r perspectives. Followed by a Q&A.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Indigenous Screen Office for funding this program!

Shorts Programs ✰

From magical forests and childhood playplaces to h***y fever dreams and the complicated meaning of home, TQFF 2026 brings you four q***r, experimental short film programs that aren’t afraid to get intimate.

🌲 Over the Garden Wall | Oct 16 at 8PM
Shorts that ground us in our bodies and encourage us to reclaim the environments often policed by malicious forces, both supernatural and real life

🛝 Playplace | Oct 17 at 4PM
Shorts that explore the fleeting respites from authority that q***r and trans people carve out for themselves

💦 P**n Is So Boring | Oct 17 at 10PM
A dose of sticky, witty, flushed-face, and defiant p*rno flicks

🏠 There’s No Place Like Home | Oct 18 at 4PM
Stories of those who attempt to renegotiate and rediscover the communities and places they call home in the face of socio-economic precarity and genocide

Get warmed up for with a chill community watch party of the Canadian Should-Be-a-Cult-Classic series I Hate People, People Hate Me.

A pitch perfect encapsulation of our festival theme “Pissed Off, Still Laughing,” the series makes no-holds-barred comedy out of the self-loathing, painfully relatable coping methods, ignorable jobs, and questionable hook ups that its duo of loveable, chaotic q***r outsiders live through.

Join us at CineCycle@CFMDC for the screening of a lifetime, where Bobbi Bobbi Summers and Lily Lily Kazimiera will be present for a post-screening Q+A, giving us the details on the lengths they’d go to for some chicken tendies 🐔🍽️

A special thank you to our partners Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival and CineCycle@CFMDC for supporting this screening! 💚

is fast approaching and we’re looking for Festival Volunteers to support with our 10th Annual Festival from October 14 to 18, 2026. This year, we return to our favourite venue in the city for the third year in a row, the Tranzac! 🩷💚

Our volunteers will provide front-of-house support at the venue by managing lineups, ushering, scanning tickets, distributing N95 masks, collecting donations and encouraging audience surveys to be filled. Our festival is a masked indoor event, and volunteers will be expected to be fully masked during their shifts. All volunteers will be offered a free festival All Access Pass and industry network opportunities with local Toronto artists throughout the festival weekend.

✰ Feature Presentation ✰

CAMP
Dir. Avalon Fast, Canada, 2025, 111 min.
Avalon Fast

In the equally deadpan and heartwrenching universe of Avalon Fast’s CAMP, troubled young q***r women find solace and community at a Christian grief camp by performing witchy girl rituals. Applying make-up together, holding hands, binge drinking, manipulating sensitive Christ-loving virgins – all to make their wishes come true and to glory the devil, of course. But how do they know the devil is so much better than Christ, and that their community is any more righteous than others? CAMP whispers no easy answers, but asks for an openhearted ambivalence for how marginalized communities are built and how women mourn their losses.

🌟The short film Kanekalon (Dir. Sara J. Asprilla sara j. asprilla palomino) will be screened alongside our feature, CAMP. Kanekalon finds a young trans woman feeling out her new life away from her caring family home, in a city where the threat of exclusion lurks everywhere even among the q***r community. In this pair of visually transfixing and sometimes darkly comic films, young women struggling to find safety and community find themselves asking: what are you willing to sacrifice in order to belong?

✰ Feature Presentation ✰

Lucid
Dir. Deanna Milligan & Ramsey Fendall, Canada, 2025, 110 min.
LUCID

In the trippy horror feature Lucid, a q***r art student’s attempts to cure her creative block unleashes a monstrous negativity that rages at the family, minimum wage job, and patriarchal gatekeepers looming over her life. Shot on film and featuring a collage-like aesthetic, Lucid challenges us to embrace our abject feelings, which, like a haggard monster or a crazed slasher villain, can rip away at the genuine evils in our lives.

🌟The short film Mis-Angel (Dir. Wyatt Carson) will be screened alongside our feature, Lucid. Mis-Angel follows a trans girl’s romantic fantasy with a beautiful stranger she meets at a bus stop. Each film in this short-and-a-feature two-hander offers a dreamy escape hatch of sorts, an invitation to embrace both the joy and rage that lives within us in equal measure.
