Reports of violence and harassment top the list of workplace complaints received by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) every year. To prevent and respond to these issues, employers are required to have a Workplace violence and harassment policy and program as per Section 32.0.1 through to Section 32.0.8 of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
On Monday April 20 at 10am, the Health and Safety Advisory Committee for Live Performance (Ontario) will be hosting an open webinar to help provide clarity and understanding about the legislative requirements geared toward preventing and responding to workplace violence and harassment. This webinar is designed to support employers, supervisors and workers in the review, development and understanding of workplace policies and programs. Expected run time is about 90 minutes.
Our presenting guest will be Martin Berthelot of Workplace Safety and Prevention Services (WSPS).
Meeting minimum requirements is the least that needs to happen, not the best that can happen to keep workplaces safe. We will explain the difference between a policy and a program; cover definitions including a discussion about on what is and isn’t harassment at work; review the need for a violence risk assessment; discuss measures, procedures and investigations; explain the value and limitations of online and e-learning platforms; and provide some de-escalation tips for front line workers.
By the end of the session you will either feel reassured about your policy and program or be looking to make some adjustments ensuring compliance and moving towards best practice or best in class.
