✨ Part 2 of our amazing design project with OCAD students! ✨ Together, we imagined what an OASIS Food Hub could look like right here in the heart of St. James Town.

From spaces to grow and share food 🌱 to areas where neighbors can connect, create, and collaborate 🤝, this model reflects our dream of building a community hub where food security and togetherness thrive.

At the heart of this vision is the idea of building on and around the old pool, transforming it into a vibrant space that brings people together while preserving a place that means so much to our community. 🏊‍♀️💚

💡This isn’t just about food; it’s about creating a home for ideas, creativity, and collective action toward a healthier, climate-resilient future.

Have you ever eaten a vegetable that was picked just minutes ago? The taste is unbeatable and you can experience it this summer!
The St. James Town Co-op is hosting a trip to Ujamaa Farm on August 23, August 30, and September 5 for a fun, educational day learning all about urban farming.

🌱 Why it is amazing:

- Urban farms can grow food with 80% less water than traditional farms.
- They bring fresh produce closer to homes, which means fewer trucks on the road and less pollution.
- They help build strong, connected communities, and much more!

Join us next saturday on August 23 as we visit Ujamaa farm!
An opportunity to learn about Urban farming while practically experiencing first hand how it is done!

📍 Meet us at 325 Bleecker St at 9:30 AM - TTC fare & snacks will be provided.
👟 Bring closed-toe shoes, a hat, and water.
💚 Invite your friends & family for a day outdoors in nature - perfect for kids and adults

📆 Remember to mark these dates on your Calendar! August 23, August 30, and September 6th for our upcoming farm trips!
Expecting to see you there! 😊

Did you know?
August 1 marks Emancipation Day in Canada, a powerful reminder of the ongoing fight for freedom, dignity, and justice, as well as a reminder of the legacy that slavery still continues to have on Black people.

The day commemorates the abolition of slavery in the British Empire in 1834 and was officially recognized in Canada in 2021. Emancipation Day is not only about remembering the past but also about reflecting on the present and taking action for a more equitable future.

To learn more about the meaning of Emancipation Day, check out Minister Guilbeault’s official statement and the announcements from Canadian Heritage:

🌱 Imagine… a world where community, sustainability, and care intersect.

These visuals, created in collaboration with talented OCAD students, reflect the future we envision for our OASIS Food Hub: a thriving, self-sustaining ecosystem at the heart of St. James Town, designed to provide a model for vulnerable communities everywhere.

✨ A place where community members gather, share stories, and support one another.
🌿 A space to grow fresh food, nurture connections, and access affordable, healthy meals.
🤝 A hub that reimagines food security as a collective effort through aquaponics, community kitchens, dining spaces, and markets, creating a replicable model for neighborhoods in need.

💛 Help us bring this vision to life. Together, we can grow, create, and sustain a stronger, healthier community.
