The concept of Refutrees emerged through field research conducted between 2009-2011. In the pursuit of identifying the gaps in development in displaced-disenfranchised communities , field research concluded the importance of creating opportunities that enable local communities to sustain their livelihoods. Refutrees is seeking to develop this realization through creating pilot projects that are a)

sustainable , b) entrepreneurial and c) respond to the direct needs of the local communities. Refutrees seeks to reenergize the concept of development through disconnecting itself from the traditional aid centric model of development.
