virtues of friday and jummah in quran , sunnah and islam

Friday (Yawm al-Jumu'ah) is the master of all days and a weekly spiritual festival (Eid) for Muslims.

It features the mandatory congregational Jummah prayer, the forgiveness of minor sins, a special hour where prayers are accepted, and protection from the trials of the grave.

Virtues in the Quran

Surah Named Al-Jumu'ah:

Chapter 62 of the Quran is named Al-Jumu'ah, highlighting the honor of this day and gathering.

Direct Command to Attend:

Allah commands believers to rush to the remembrance of God and leave trade when the call to Friday prayer sounds (Quran 62:9).

Divine Oath:

Some scholars interpret Surah Al-Buruj (85:3) where Allah swears by "the witness and that which is witnessed" as a reference to Friday.

Virtues in the Sunnah

The Best Day of the Week:

Prophet Muhammad said Friday is the best day the sun rises upon.Creation of Adam:

Prophet Adam was created, entered Paradise, and was sent down to Earth on a Friday, and the Day of Judgment will occur on a Friday.

Wipeout of Sins:

Attending Jummah and proper worship erases minor sins between that Friday and the next, plus three extra days.

Hour of Acceptance:

Friday contains a brief moment during which any lawful supplication made by a Muslim servant is granted by Allah.

Light from Surah Al-Kahf:

Reciting Surah Al-Kahf on Friday illuminates a person with divine light until the following Friday.

Recommended Practices (Sunnahs) of Friday

Performing Ghusl:

Taking a full ritual bath before going to the mosque.

Wearing Clean Clothes:

Putting on neat, clean apparel and applying perfume/attar.

Arriving Early:

Walking to the mosque early to secure a close spot and perform voluntary prayers.

Abundant Salawat:

Sending plenty of peace and blessings upon Prophet Muhammad (Durood).

Listening Silently:

Listening quietly to the Imam's sermon (Khutbah) without talking or playing with distractions.

Muharram, the first month of the Islamic Hijri calendar, is one of the four sacred months in Islam.

Its 10th day, Ashura, holds profound historical and spiritual significance. In Islam, these periods are celebrated by fasting, increasing charity, and reflecting on divine deliverance and steadfastness.

Significance in the QuranThe Sacred Months:

Allah designates four months as sacred (Hurum) in the Quran.

In Surah At-Tawbah 9:36, it is emphasized that in these months, Muslims should not wrong themselves, meaning avoiding sins is highly critical.

The "Days of Allah":
The Quran instructs believers to remember the "Days of Allah"—referencing major historical days of divine mercy and deliverance.

Ashura is specifically contextualized by the salvation of Prophet Moses (Musa) and the Children of Israel from the Pharaoh.

Significance in Sunnah and Hadith

The Sunnah emphasizes that these times should be dedicated to worship, specifically through the following practices:

The Best Fast After Ramadan:
Fasting during Muharram is highly revered. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

"The best fast after the month of Ramadan is the fast of Allah’s month of Muharram."

Expiation of Sins on Ashura:

Fasting the 10th of Muharram holds tremendous reward. When asked about fasting on the day of Ashura, the Prophet (PBUH) stated it expiates (wipes out) the minor sins of the past year.

Connection to Prophet Moses:

When the Prophet (PBUH) arrived in Medina, he found the Jewish communities fasting on Ashura. They explained it was because Allah delivered Moses and the Israelites from the Pharaoh, and Moses fasted out of gratitude.

The Prophet (PBUH) declared:

"We have more right, and we have a closer connection with Moses than you have," and commanded Muslims to fast this day.

Distinctive Practice (The 9th & 10th):

To distinguish the Muslim practice from other traditions, the Prophet (PBUH) expressed his desire to also fast the 9th of Muharram (known as Tasu'a). Muslims are therefore encouraged to fast on both the 9th and 10th, or the 10th and 11th of Muharram.

✨ Overall Importance in IslamIslamic New Year:

Muharram is the dawn of the Hijri calendar, making it a powerful period to make spiritual resolutions and practice gratitude.

Victory of Truth:

Ashura symbolizes the triumph of righteousness and faith over oppression, commemorated by the historical liberation of Moses and the Children of Israel.
A deeper dive into historical narratives associated with Ashura (such as Prophet Noah/Nuh).

Jannat haram for which peoples in Quran, Sunnah & Islam:

In Islam, Paradise (Jannat) is forbidden for those who die in a state of disbelief (Kufr) or polytheism (Shirk).

Furthermore, the Sunnah specifies that certain major sins can cause a person to be denied entry to Paradise, either permanently or until they have been punished for their actions.

According to the Quran and Hadith, Paradise is forbidden for the following categories of people:
1. Disbelievers and Polytheists (Kuffar and Mushrikeen)

🚫The Associators (Mushrik):
Paradise is absolutely forbidden for whoever dies as a polytheist (associating partners with Allah).

🚫The Deniers (Kaafir):
Those who rejected the signs of Allah and turned away in arrogance will not enter Paradise until a camel passes through the eye of a needle.

🚫Those who died upon Disbelief:
The Quran explicitly states that Allah has forbidden Paradise for those who associate partners with Him.

2. People Forbidden based on Specific Hadith
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) warned that certain people will not enter Paradise:

💧The Disobedient to Parents:
One who is disobedient to their parents.

💧The Drunkard:
One who is addicted to alcohol.

💧One Who Boasts of Charity:
One who reminds others of their charity to belittle them.

💧The Dayyooth (Cu***ld):
A man who has no Ghayrah (jealousy/protective honour) over his family and tolerates immorality among his women.

💧A Woman Imitating Men / Man Imitating Women:
A person who adopts the appearance of the opposite s*x.

💧The Arrogant:
Anyone with even a tiny speck of arrogance in their heart.

💧The Talebearer/Backbiter:
One who spreads gossip to cause division.

💧Those Who Commit Major Sins Without Repentance:
Magicians and those who kill unjustly (unless Allah forgives them).

3. People to Whom Allah Will Not Speak
The Prophet (ﷺ) mentioned three types of people to whom Allah will not speak, look at, or purify on the Day of Resurrection, and for whom is a painful punishment:
* An Aged Man Who Commits Zina (Adultery/Fornication).
* A Lying Ruler.
* A Proud/Arrogant Poor Person.

4. Important Contextual Notes
⭐Those with Imaan (Faith):
All believers will enter Paradise eventually, even if they are punished first for major sins they did not repent from.

⭐The Importance of Repentance:
If a person commits any of these sins but sincerely repents before death, Allah may forgive them and admit them to Paradise.

👉The Definition of Shirk:
The only sin that is absolutely not forgiven if died upon is Shirk (associating partners with Allah).

☂️Obedience to the Prophet:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
"Everyone from my nation will enter Paradise but those who refuse."
When asked who would refuse, he said: "Whoever obeys me enters Paradise, and whoever disobeys me has refused".

In this thought-provoking video titled "Jannah is Forbidden for These People," Sheikh Assim Al Hakeem delves into the serious topic of who may be denied entr...
