From CBC to CP24 to Today's Farmer, striking members of OPSEU/SEFPO are making waves in the media this week as a province-wide strike expands.

Workers are taking a historic stand – not just for themselves, but for the people they support and the future of services that communities rely on.

They are telling their stories and shining a light on the realities of underfunding: people falling through the cracks and families struggling to access support, while workers are pushed into poverty.

Happening TOMORROW!

🚨What: Stop Ford's Hospital Privatization March + Rally
⏱️When: 12:00 pm
📍Where: Outside of Union Station

Tomorrow, on May 28, the Ontario Health Coalition will be leading a march from Union station to Queen's Park to stop Doug Ford’s privatization train wreck!

OPSEU/SEFPO members will be out in large numbers alongside other workers, community members, and allies to demand more investment in public health care and an end to privatization. Join us tomorrow as we fight to protect public health care in Ontario!

While our public hospitals have been pushed into deficit and patients are routinely charged thousands of dollars in private clinics, the Ford government is redirecting more than a billion dollars per year in public funding to for-profit corporations to privatize our health care.

We need to make a show of strength that is commensurate to the threat of losing our public hospitals to privatization. Please come out and share this as widely as possible. It will be an exciting day. Ontarians are coming in on VIA and GO trains from all over the province to join the giant march and protest.

THURSDAY, MAY 28: at 12 pm noon, we will gather outside Union Station for a rally then march to Queen's Park for a giant protest outside the Ontario Legislature. Groups will be joining in along the way.

Thousands of community and social services workers across the province are on strike, fighting for the future of their services.

Frontline community and social services workers support youth, families and some of the most vulnerable people in our communities every single day. But years of underfunding have pushed these services to the point of crisis, while workers continue to hold up a crumbling system on their backs.

MPP Wayne Gates stood in the Legislature on Monday to deliver a powerful warning to the Ford government about interference in bargaining at Niagara Parks:

"We’re getting ready for an incredible tourism season right now, getting ready for FIFA. If the province wants Niagara to be ready for the summer, then the Premier and Treasury Board need to step aside and let bargaining happen in good faith.”

OPSEU Local 217, Niagara Parks workers, is an approximately 850-person unit comprised of full-time, part-time, and seasonal workers spanning 56km of attractions in the Niagara region. They are seeking an immediate response before the start of the summer tourist season, recognizing the importance of their work not only for Niagara tourism and Niagara Parks, but also the effect of a potential strike for many hotels and restaurants in the greater Niagara Region.

A wave of pink in Hamilton today as Lynwood Charlton Centre workers hit the picket line, joining thousands of community and social service workers across the province fighting for adequate funding to protect services our families rely on.

And those families are holding the line with us — as one parent of a youth receiving care shared on the line today, "you can't pour from an empty cup, we have to take care of the staff who take care of our families."

Almost 4000 community services workers have hit picket lines this morning. OPSEU/SEFPO President JP Hornick joins workers at Community Living Central York who provide developmental services to the Newmarket Community.

Workers cannot carry the weight of a crumbling system on their backs, and are demanding funding for services communities rely on and justice for stolen wages under Ford’s Bill 124.

Pressure is heating up for the Ford government to deliver funding for services that vulnerable people rely on, with thousands of workers at community and social service agencies going on strike today.

This is a fight for the future of the services we provide, and we’re calling on employers to support this call for funding to shorten job action.

We want to get back to the people we support as soon as possible, but workers simply cannot continue to carry a crumbling system on our backs.
