Errors in the recitation of the Noble Qur’an are of two types: clear (major) errors and subtle (minor) errors. Clear errors are prohibited, while there is a difference of opinion regarding subtle errors. The earlier scholars held that they are prohibited, whereas later scholars preferred the view that they are not prohibited, although I agree with the position of the leading early Qur’an reciters that a person who is negligent regarding subtle errors is sinful.
The eminent scholar Shaykh Ibrahim al-Samanudi said:
“Errors are of two kinds: clear and subtle;
Both are prohibited, though there is disagreement concerning the subtle.”
The position I consider strongest is that they are prohibited. And Allah knows best.
