Think Don't Shoot

Think Don't Shoot EDUCATION | SUPPORT | MUSIC | CLOTHING | EVENTS The founder Leo Barbe is a survivor of two bullets, a victim of PTSD, a youth activist and published author.

In 2007 at 21 Leo was caught in the wrong place at the wrong time while on vacation in Montreal. He found himself nose to nose with a youth holding a gun after a cab driver told him to go through an alleyway as a shortcut. A brief scuffle ensued and they both tripped over a small steel fence as the youth shot Leo in the stomach. The shooter then stood up and put Leo between his legs as he aimed fo

r the final shot. At the last second Leo moved his body and the bullet missed his head and ripped through his back close to his heart. The youth ran away as Leo stayed on the ground bleeding to death. A mailman on his morning route found Leo an hour later after tripping over his body. He performed CPR on Leo to save his life. Leo was then forced to endure four major surgeries over four months with one performed without anesthetics. He lost 70 pounds and had to learn how to walk again during his journey back to health. A few months after his last surgery Leo quickly found out that he no longer understood the world around him. The ripple effects of violence started to take their toll on him and his family. Within six months Leo was diagnosed with severe PTSD and tried to commit suicide twice with the second time placing him in a mental hospital after a dangerous run in with the Police. Leo now knew his life would never be the same again. One year after that horrible night Leo heard the voice of Martin Luther King Jr during a drive home with his Dad and his life once again changed forever. The next morning TDS was born as a presentation series. A month later an organization was built. One month after that Leo was asked by a National Publishing House to write a book about his life. Ever since that morning in April 2009 Leo has been on a crusade to end youth violence from its core. To empower youth in a way that creates real change. Please make sure to support our movement as we are completely funded by our founder who needs your help!
