On September 30, we observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day.

This important day calls on us to recognize the history and lasting impacts of Canada’s residential school system, honour those who were lost, and support survivors, their families, and affected communities.

Girl Guides of Canada remains dedicated to reconciliation and encourages staff, members, and supporters to reflect, learn, and join in meaningful solidarity.

On October 3, Girl Guides will be selling cookies at participating Michaels stores across Canada! Michaels will also have a free craft station that anyone can enjoy.

5 myths about volunteering with Girl Guides we hear all the time, that absolutely need to retire.

❌ I have to have kids in the program.
Nope! You don’t need to be a parent (or have any connection to Guiding!) to volunteer.

❌ I need to be a pro camper.
Can you learn? Then you can volunteer. You don’t need to arrive knowing how to pitch a tent, tie every knot or start a fire with two sticks. 🔥

❌ I need lots of free time.
There are different ways to volunteer, from supporting a unit regularly to helping out behind the scenes or with occasional activities.

❌ I need experience with kids.
Absolutely not. You’ll get training, resources and support along the way.

❌ I have to know everything about the program and planning activities.
Good news: nobody does on day one. You bring your enthusiasm, curiosity and willingness to learn. We’ll help with the rest.

✅ You don't have to be a certain “type” of person to volunteer. There’s a place for people who love the outdoors, people who love organizing, people who love teaching, people who love creating, and people who just want to help girls grow into confident, capable humans.

Bring what you’ve got. Learn something new. Make a difference.

Dear teacher,

This summer, I…

🏕️ Spent days at camp
🔥 Made memories around the campfire
🥾 Explored the great outdoors
🧭 Tried new things
✈️ Travelled and experienced new places
🌎 Met other Girl Guides from around the world
🤝 Made friendships that crossed borders
💪 Learned skills that I’ll keep with me long after summer ends

Basically, my summer ruled.

From local camps to international Guiding adventures, our members spent the summer getting outside, trying new things, seeing the world and discovering just how much they’re capable of.

And honestly? 10/10 summer. Would absolutely do again. ⭐️

We love a good before and after from Mudgirl! 💪

Girl Guides in Calgary showed no fear getting messy on the race trail this summer, with muddy socks and big smiles all around! Sorry, parents, about that extra laundry!

Way to go, girls! Proud of your resilience, grit, and determination. This is how we GRRRL.
