Evacuees, help is on the way...

After seeing the damages Taal Volcano had caused in such short time, my wife Peaches and I decided to connect to our families and friends in Tanauan, Batangas and call some of our friends in Canada. As a collective group, we decided to raise awareness and raise money to buy relief goods for the evacuees in the City of Tanauan, Batangas Province which has been severely affected by the ashes from Taal Volcano.

Days after the eruption, it was decided that we organize a joint relief team with our friends and families near ground zero and fellow Filipino Canadians to organize medical assistance and aid distribution. With help from the Philippine Consulate’s Department of Trade and Industry Canada and Philippines, we made great efforts to secure N95 masks at cost from one manufacturer in Manila. For less than ten cents Canadian, we can procure N95 masks and be distributed within hours of payment. Saving us shipping, tariffs and time, giving more to the evacuees. A normal shipment to the Philippines is about 30-45 days, we will be able to deliver N95 masks in hours or days...

For our efforts, we decided we will be focusing on distributing relief supplies except food items, because it was learned that foodstuffs had already been fulfilled. But when additional funding are collected, we will allocate to other necessities like food and water as needed.

Tanauan is located near an evacuation-order zone. For this reason, people who fled the heavily-afflicted area have been seeking shelter in Tanauan’s evacuation centers. The number of the evacuees is reported to be 2,251 families (7,930 people), of which 296 families (1,183 people) have been staying at Tanauan evacuation centres (as of January 16th).
