Global Wildlife Warriors - Howl "There are nights when the wolves are silent and only the moon Howls."

224 wolves have been slaughtered in Montana - killed for sport, for fun, for trophy.

Just yesterday, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks announced that Region 3 had reached its quota and would close in 24 hours. Since that announcement, three more wolves were killed (or reported killed) in Region 3, bringing the total killed in that zone to 55 (compared to a quota of 52) wolves.

Beyond inciting outrage on behalf of the wolves who lost their lives, this should also inspire change. Why is there a 24 hour warning period before a region that has reached its quota officially closes? This undoubtedly leads to more wolves being killed without holding hunters accountable.

In the past four years, advocates for gray wolves have celebrated significant milestones in our fight for the species’ survival and recovery across the United States. One of the most critical achievements was the reinstatement of federal protections under the Endangered Species Act in 2022, following a court ruling that overturned a prior Trump era decision to delist them. This victory restored vital safeguards in most of the lower 48 states against hunting, trapping, and habitat destruction, ensuring the species has a fighting chance to recover in regions where their numbers remain precariously low. Gray wolves have also made remarkable strides in repopulating California, a state where they had long been absent, and their reintroduction in Colorado marks a hopeful step in restoring balance to ecosystems in the Rocky Mountains. Despite these accomplishments, the fight is far from over. Threats to wolves, including anti-environmental policies, barbaric wolf hunts in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming, and state-agencies targeting wolf packs at the behest of ranchers remain persistent challenges. But the progress we’ve made proves that our collective efforts matter, and we will continue to stand firm in protecting gray wolves and their rightful place in the wild. We will not go back.

When wolves were delisted nationwide in 2020, states like Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming passed laws allowing the slaughter of up to 90% of their wolf populations. In Montana, this included removing quotas for hunters near Yellowstone.

The result? Nearly a third of Yellowstone’s iconic wolves were killed in one hunting season, sparking global outrage. While conservation efforts restored some quotas, providing partial protection for park wolves, the attention faded—but the slaughter didn’t stop.

This season alone, nearly 200 wolves have already been killed in Montana. Across the Northern Rockies, these egregious hunts continue.

We must demand nonlethal stewardship and an end to the wolf hunts. Raise your voice and take action today at TeamWolf.Org!

When wolves were nearly eradicated from the United States prior to the creation of the Endangered Species Act, Minnesota was home to the only wolves that remained in the contiguous U.S.. No species can thrive when they exist on a genetic island.

It’s more important than ever that we work to protect Minnesota wolves— with a new incoming Congress, bills are sure to be introduced that would see wolves delisted across the country (without judicial review).

Together we can and for good!
