Do you know that many descendants of Bubis and Tikars who were taken to Jamaica live in Clarendon and St. Elizabeth? Unfortunately, they think that they are Igbos and Ashanti because the history highlights Nigeria and Ghana.

There are various types of libations. This clip shows a fresh water and a sweet water libation. The sweet water libation recalled the memory of something that my father told me. He told me of a decision that he made before I was born. To him it was a good decision, but to an older friend of his, it was a foolish mistake. He explained that his friend warned him and when he insisted on going forward with his plan, she said to him, “Ants will come to my grave to tell me how you suffered because of this decision that you made”.
The explanation of the sweet water libation attracting ants and the role that the ants play in connecting events of the present to the past reminded me of what my father told me over 5 decades ago.

Today is African Ancestry Day! Thank you Gina Page and Dr. Rick Kittles for 23 years of dedication to helping us find our African roots. Personally, you have helped with my grounding. And with that grounding came stronger spiritual, ancestral and cultural connections. My maternal root is Bubi, Tikar, Hausa & Fulani! You changed my world in an enormous way ❤️🖤💚 Thank you!

He explained that One hundred and thirty generations of history is documented in Cameroon. This history includes the migration of our people from Egypt to Cameroon, Congo, etc.; and where in Africa some of the descendants of those who left Egypt are.
I learn my history from the lips of my elders…not from the films and books of the colonizers. Go home; sit at the feet of the leaders of your nation; and learn your history.
What moved me at this site was the purification ritual and the ancient culture of sending the message of our return to those who had already transitioned.

By now, you all know that my maternal root spans 4 ethnic groups...3 of which are in Cameroon. I don't know when my last ancestor actually lived on the land which is now called Cameroon...my most educated guess (based on the fact that I'm also Oböbè/Bubi) is that it was before the Abóbë/Bubis migrated to Bioko Island.
The video shows the celebration after my initiation on Jebale Island, Cameroon. This was my first initiation! Me, an African born on the island of Jamaica to a descendant of an African who migrated from Cameroon to Bioko Island, returned to Cameroon and was initiated on an island while wearing a T-shirt with the phrase "Roots in Bioko Island" (I didn’t know that there would be an initiation that day). How significant is that? 😂

After (at least) over 200 years of my maternal family living in the Diaspora, I knew that I had to start my return to the Motherland in Egypt. I’m glad I did. I now have the privilege on reminiscing on this life-changing experience. This is the drive from the airport to the hotel. It seems like yesterday. I soaked every moment in.

For those of us who were born in the Diaspora…for those of us whose documentation of our ancestors start with a great great great grandparent who was born on a plantation in the Americas…remember that our history didn’t begin there. They kidnapped and enslaved our ancestors because they knew that natural gifts of strength, wisdom, skills, resilience, intelligence, integrity, etc., of our ancestors would enrich them. If they didn’t see our value they would have ignored us.

The Iberomaurusians of what is now called Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia were indigenous Africans…Black Africans with deep roots in North Africa. There is no possibility that they could be white or light-skinned. The DNA markers for white skin had not yet evolved.
These people were wrongly named because the Euro-centric archaeologists assumed that they were migrants from the Iberian Peninsula. The fact is that they were the proto-Berbers. According to MyTrueAncestry, their closest ancient population is the Moors.
All Fulani have DNA markers from the Iberomaurusians. The Bubis who belong to the cluster tribes of Bubi, Tikar, Hausa and Fulani also carry DNA markers from the Iberomaurusians. This is a rich, powerful history that speaks of our strength, resilience and power to champion every cause.
