The founders, Mrs Vivian Amadi and Mrs Doris Osuiwu recognized the need to deploy the talents, energies and skills of women in a collaborative manner in order to help alleviate the moral and social problems confronting women and youth in today’s world. This effort gave birth to HEARTS-ALIKE Club. The following pioneer members were: Ms Melba Nwachukwu, Mrs Ngoli Aputa, Mrs Chinyere Okere, Mrs Mercy
Ogoh, Mrs Funke Adebayo, Mrs Juliana Udaya, Mrs Racheal Ayasi and Mrs Magdalene Ajibola. Together they endorsed the name, Hearts-Alike at the first meeting held on February 13, 2021 over a video conference. Soon, Hearts-Alike club attracted some new members. The founders observed a great need to improve the status of immigrants in Canada and to promote an enabling environment for them to thrive. To achieve these objectives, they engage in developmental programs that ensure that marginalized persons of colour enjoy reasonable and dignified living standards. It therefore became necessary to incorporate the entity as HEARTS-ALIKE INITIATIVES; a non-profit organization on July 22, 2021. It is our dream that membership in Hearts-Alike Initiatives will grow to include thousands of dedicated, concerned, hardworking members. The members shall represent a cross-section of resourceful individuals from all walks of life, synergizing in the interest of all immigrants without discrimination. HEARTS-ALIKE members will work in partnership with other non-for-profit organizations geared toward enhancing the quality of life for our fellow human beings. Immigration has resulted in neglect for social networks, family, work, colleagues and community groups — the support systems that form the bedrock for psychological well-being. People who have fled war, violence, conflict or persecution and have crossed an international border to find safety in Canada, are the most hit by the sudden separation from their loved ones. Hearts-Alike Initiatives exists to give succor to the downcast and offers a motherly shoulder to lean on. However, we strongly believe that while it is a good idea to stick with people from our community, it should not be to the exclusion of other communities, with whom we constantly interact with and learn from. We shall put into enforcement brilliant programs and projects directed towards the fulfillment of HEARTS-ALIKE INITIATIVES’s mission. Innovations in social services will continue as the organization matures. Members of HEARTS-ALIKE Initiatives will through each administration, continue their efforts toward serving our community.
