When Donata spent months searching for work without success, she knew she needed a new path.
Through War Child and our local partners, she received hands-on training in bicycle mechanics, developing practical skills that are helping her build a future in a field traditionally dominated by men. Today, she proudly specializes in bicycle repair through the Mastercard Foundation BRIDGE Project in Uganda.
In refugee communities, bicycles are more than transportation -- they help people get to school, access healthcare, reach markets, and earn a living. For many families, a bicycle can mean the difference between opportunity and isolation. In fact, long distances to school remain a major barrier for many learners, particularly girls.
Tools and equipment can still be hard to come by, but Donata perseveres, keeping bicycles on the road and proving that women belong in every profession.
This , we celebrate women like Donata who are turning skills into opportunity - one bicycle at a time. 💛🚴♀️
