When Donata spent months searching for work without success, she knew she needed a new path.

Through War Child and our local partners, she received hands-on training in bicycle mechanics, developing practical skills that are helping her build a future in a field traditionally dominated by men. Today, she proudly specializes in bicycle repair through the Mastercard Foundation BRIDGE Project in Uganda.

In refugee communities, bicycles are more than transportation -- they help people get to school, access healthcare, reach markets, and earn a living. For many families, a bicycle can mean the difference between opportunity and isolation. In fact, long distances to school remain a major barrier for many learners, particularly girls.

Tools and equipment can still be hard to come by, but Donata perseveres, keeping bicycles on the road and proving that women belong in every profession.

This , we celebrate women like Donata who are turning skills into opportunity - one bicycle at a time. 💛🚴‍♀️

Rebuilding a school means more than walls.

It means desks instead of floors.
Clean water instead of going without.
Support instead of fear.
It turns daily hardship into possibility for children, families, and entire communities.
Education doesn’t just teach, it protects.

War Child is committed to supporting children in places like Yemen, where there is so much left to do.

No girl should miss school because of her period.

Today on World Menstrual Hygiene Day, and every day, we recognize the importance of dignity, access, and education for girls affected by conflict and displacement.

Across Uganda and South Sudan, War Child and local partners are helping girls stay in school by providing dignity kits, menstrual hygiene support, and training on how to make reusable sanitary pads using low-cost local materials.

Through our Geared for Success program, we've supported more than 8,000 girls and young people to reduce barriers and create more inclusive school environments. All girls deserve the right to participate with confidence.

“For me, theatre is a mirror of society.” – Annie, age 12, tells us.

Through participatory theatre at her learning centre in Bukavu Democratic Republic of Congo, Annie is learning to use storytelling to reflect relationships and peer interactions, and find better methods to get through hard times or conflict.

The workshops teach concentration, reduce stress, and build what students call “superpowers” -- like the “shield of the righteous,” which encourages compassion and standing beside others in difficult moments.

For Annie and her classmates, theatre builds confidence, empathy, and community, even on days when hunger and stress make it hard to focus.

In Yemen, only half of health facilities are still functioning. Many schools have been destroyed or abandoned. For girls, the barriers to accessing education are even more complex.

No private toilets. No female teachers. Pressure to marry early or stay home.

A safe school can change everything - restoring dignity, confidence, and a future.

War Child has helped rebuild schools, train teachers, and support thousands of children to keep learning.

Even in crisis, resilience grows when we invest in it.
