C'est avec une profonde tristesse que je confirme que l'agent provincial Tarun Bali, de la Police provinciale de l’Ontario (Police provinciale - OPP), a été tué dans l'exercice de ses fonctions cet après-midi à Hearst. Son courage et son dévouement au service des autres resteront à jamais gravés dans nos mémoires. Alors que nous pleurons cette perte incommensurable, j'adresse nos sincères condoléances à ses proches, à ses collègues et à l'ensemble de la communauté policière.

Update 7:36 p.m. Thursday- MNR is reporting Timmins 9 fire at 3,200 hectares as of this afternoon. Residents of Gogama have been advised to prepare for potential evacuation. Timmins is under a city-wide fire ban with no open-air burning.

Update 6:53 p.m. from TimminsToday, MNR has now issued a mandatory evacuation of Mattagami First Nation. Timmins 9 fire is currently estimated at 1,100 hectares. We have shared the news article on our LinkedIN page (https://www.linkedin.com/company/city-of-timmins/)

While there is no fire ban currently in place for the city of Timmins, we are asking residents to use caution. The Timmins Fire Department is keeping a close eye on current conditions. We will provide immediate notice if/when a fire ban is put in place.

Members of the Mattagami First Nation are expected to begin an organized evacuation today because of the Timmins 9 fire. Reports as of Tuesday afternoon indicated that the fire was roughly 460 hectares and was about 14kms west of the community. Crews from the Ministry of Natural Resources are working to bring the fire under control.

Chief Jennifer Constant, travel safe and take care of each other. Thank you to organizations like The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society who have stepped in to ensure their pets are safe.

Timmins community, remember that the forest fire danger is elevated in our area. Follow Ontario Forest Fires and seek out credible news sources for up-to-date information.

UPDATED - LOCATED
The Timmins Police Service is advising that the previously reported missing 14 year old, female, who had been the subject of a missing persons incident reported to the Timmins Police Service on June 3rd 2026 has been located.

This matter is deemed to be a closed incident with no further police action required.

The Timmins Police Service is thankful to the general public for their assistance in regards to this matter.
