And we continue to celebrate this national holiday by drawing the lucky winner of our annual house lottery. Today marks our 40th winner, and we congratulate Frank McKay the winner of our Fort William Rotary House Lottery!

We are thrilled to announce that over the last 40 years, $10 million has been raised through the proceeds to support dozens of local charities! So once again, thanks to all of our supporters 💛💙

July 1, 2026 also marks the 110th Anniversary of our club, and we are thrilled to be celebrating this milestone over the upcoming Rotary year. Over those 110 years, one mission has been the same: we are who strive to !

The gavel has officially been passed!

The Fort William Rotary Club is proud to welcome Stephen Margarit as our new President, following the official passing of the gavel from outgoing President Jodi Phillips.

We are incredibly grateful to Jodi for her leadership, dedication, and passion for serving our community over the past year. Her commitment has strengthened our club and helped make a positive difference in the lives of so many.

As Stephen begins his presidential year, we also celebrate a remarkable milestone—our 110th anniversary. For 110 years, the Fort William Rotary Club has been committed to Service Above Self, building friendships, supporting our community, and . We look forward to honouring that legacy while continuing to serve with purpose and compassion.

Congratulations to Jodi Phillips, the 2025-26 recipient of the Gordon-Ross-Vance Judge Award!

This award was created to honour the memory of the Judge brothers, who were all active and long-standing Fort William Rotarians and past club presidents, and were all examples of . This award goes to a Fort William Rotarian who has made significant contributions to our club and who has served in a leadership position during their tenure in Rotary. While our Rotarian of the Year award recognizes a Rotarian who has contributed significantly in the past year, the Judge Award is awarded to a Rotarian who has consistently contributed over many years in the Club, and a Rotarian can only receive this award once.

Cynthia Judge, last year’s recipient, presented Jodi with her GRVJ Pin and a small token of appreciation from the Club. Jodi joined our club in 2008, has served on our Board a number of times and chaired a few committees such as Membership, Program, Youth Protection and Santa Claus Parade. Jodi has her PHF +1 and has volunteered with numerous projects and events our club has participated in over her 18 years in the club. She is only the 2nd person in our club’s 109-year history to be asked to serve a second term as President, having previously served in 2014/15. Jodi is a passionate leader and Scot, full of determination and hutzpah, and over the last year, she has reformed a lot of policies and procedures in our club. 2025-2026 Rotarian of the Year, Steve Beaucage! 🎉💙💛

At our year-end meeting, last year’s recipient Laurie, was happy to present Steven with the Rotarian of the Year Award!

For the past nine years, Steve has been a dedicated and dependable member of the Fort William Rotary Club, generously giving his time, expertise, and leadership in support of our mission. Whether serving on our Board of Directors, managing the finances of our House Lottery, or stepping up when unexpected challenges arose, Steve has consistently led with integrity, humility, and an unwavering commitment to service.

This year, Steve played a key role in helping launch our 40th House Lottery, taking on additional responsibilities when they were needed most and helping introduce the innovative $600,000 cash option. Behind the scenes, his steady leadership and attention to detail have been invaluable to our club's success.

Beyond Rotary, Steve embodies the spirit of as a devoted husband to Robyn, proud father to Annabelle, and passionate community volunteer. It's especially inspiring to see him sharing the values of service with his family and encouraging the next generation to give back.

Steve reminds us that Rotary is about more than attending meetings—it's about showing up when your club and your community need you. Thank you, Steve, for everything you do and for making our club stronger. Congratulations on this well-deserved honour! 👏

Celebrating President Jodi

Tonight, we celebrated outgoing President Jodi at our annual Passing of the Gavel held at the scenic Nor'Wester Hotel.

After a delicious dinner, we had a Jodi Quiz, presented a few club awards and then Jodi gave her speech, looking back at this past year, the challenges, successes and how we as a club and community .

After her speech, Jodi received a few gifts from the club, including a big box of tissues from PE Stephen.

Congrats Christina! 🎓🎉

President-Elect and St. Patrick Alumni, Stephen attended St. Patrick High School’s Convocation last evening to present the T.A.S. Memorial Bursary to Christina Tassone.

Christina is continuing her education at Lakehead University in the fall, and she is an Ontario Scholar!

Tom McKee was a local educator who had a passion for supporting young people in our community. He joined Rotary in 1947 and was a member of our club until his passing in 1996. During his time in Fort William Rotary, he served as Club President (1957-58) and Rotary District 5580 District Governor (1964-65). He was also very active in our club in the area of Youth Service, and our High School Bursaries were named after him in recognition of his long-time commitment.

We had 2 presentations tonight at our meeting, which was held at the new meeting space at the RFDA.

First, PA Rotarian Marg Woods talked about a new international service project PA Rotary is leading with Mano a Mano in Bolivia to build a medical clinic.

Then we had our annual update from the local air cadet squadron that we sponsor. Thanks to Ava and Zach for their presentation and for letting us know the benefits of the Air Cadet program. The partnership between Fort William Rotary and the local air cadets dates back to 1942!

Happy Retirement Pastor Matthew!

Fort William and Port Arthur Rotarians were on hand to help celebrate Matthew's 31 years as the pastor of Our Saviour's Lutheran Parish and 39 years as a pastor. As he begins this new chapter, you will still see him at PA Rotary meetings.

The Fort William Rotary's House Lottery supports dozens of local charities in Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario. Shelter House benefit greatly from the proceeds of the Fort William Rotary House Lottery. We use the funds for our community meal program, serving over 7,750 meals a month.
