Our friends at the Three Rivers Childcare Co-op (TRCC) are just two board members away from incorporating a 24/7/365 childcare facility for our region. We are TWO people away from officially incorporating the Three Rivers Childcare Co-op!

We had a great Steering Committee meeting last night, but we hit one major hurdle: we cannot officially incorporate as a non-profit co-operative until we fill two key board roles—Vice-Chair and Secretary/Treasurer.

Without these two positions filled, we cannot file our legal paperwork, apply for major capital grants, or move forward with securing a location for a 24/7/365 licensed childcare facility in the Tri-Community area.

How you can help right now:

1. Step Up for a Board Role: If you care about local families, economic growth, or shift-worker support, we need you! You don't need to be a corporate expert—just dependable and organized. We will guide you through the duties! Interested? Send us a DM or email us at [email protected]

2. Complete the Childcare Needs Survey: Even if you can’t join the board, funders heavily look at community data. Completing our survey provides the exact proof of need required to unlock grant funding... and PLEASE share the survey link!

Big news for Tri-Community families!

Did you know we are actively working to bring a 24/7/365 licensed childcare facility to our region?

Standard 9-to-5 daycares just don't work for the amazing shift workers, healthcare staff, emergency responders, and industrial workers who keep our community running around the clock. That’s why we’ve formed the Three Rivers Childcare Co-op (TRCC)—and we need your voice to help make it a reality!

Whether you’re a parent, a supporter, or just passionate about local families, we’d love for you to join our next steering committee meeting.

We have some absolutely thrilling news to share! The momentum is officially building for our regional seniors' housing initiative, and our funding toolkit just got a massive boost. We are incredibly honored to announce that The Pas Tri-Community Foundation has
selected our project for a $20,000 grant from the Moffat Family Fund! Combined with a wonderful core contribution of $1,500 from the Foundation itself, and an incredibly generous $5,000 grant from the RM of Kelsey, our community partners are stepping up in a huge way. These foundational funds are a massive leap forward as we work toward creating a sustainable, accessible, and vibrant housing co-op for seniors right here in the Tri- Community region. By investing in this project, these organizations are helping ensure our local seniors can stay rooted in the community they helped build.

A massive thank you to the RM of Kelsey for their incredibly generous grant of $5,000, and to the Tri-Community Foundation for their wonderful contribution of $1,500!

These funds are a huge step forward as we work toward creating a sustainable, accessible, and vibrant housing co-op for seniors right here in the Tri-Community region. By investing in this project, both organizations are helping ensure our local seniors can stay rooted in the community they helped build.

Home should feel right at every stage of life. Northern Lights Seniors' Non-Profit Housing Co-op is working to create modern, accessible, and affordable housing for seniors in The Pas, built on a co-operative model that puts residents in the driver's seat.

Their grant supports the pre-development reports needed to unlock federal funding and bring this vision one step closer to reality. Big things start with solid foundations.

YOU SPOKE; WE LISTENED!

We want to say a huge THANK YOU to the 93 community members who completed our housing survey. Your feedback is the fuel for the Northern Lights Seniors’ Housing Co-op. Here is what we learned:

The Pas is Home: Most of you want to stay here, but you need a home that "works" for you (no stairs, less maintenance, more safety).

The 2-Bedroom Goal: Most households are looking for a 2-bedroom layout—enough space for life, but without the headache of a big yard.

Community Matters: You told us that being close to family/friends and having a common room to grab a coffee with neighbors is a top priority.

Ready to Lead: We were blown away that 44% of you want to help us run and manage this co-op!

What’s Next? We’re moving from "Research" to "Action."

Here is our immediate roadmap:

Finalizing the Location: We are currently evaluating potential sites to ensure the project is centrally located with easy access to the amenities our seniors use most. We want a location that balances independence with community connection.

Securing Seed Funding: To unlock major federal and provincial construction grants, we need to complete site-specific architectural and environmental studies. We are currently seeking $100,000 in foundational seed funding to get these "shovels-in-the-dirt" assessments started.

Advocating for the Project: We are taking these survey results to our Tri-Community councils to show them that this project is a MUST for our community's future.
