The Huron-Grey-Bruce Citizens Committee on Nuclear Waste was formed to represent local concerns in the review of OPG's (now terminated) proposal to construct a deep geological repository for low and intermediate level radioactive waste beneath Bruce NGS The Huron-Grey-Bruce Citizens Committee on Nuclear Waste is a newly formed organization, created to represent concerned citizens in the counties

of Grey, Bruce and Huron in the public review of the proposal to expand nuclear operations at the Bruce Nuclear Complex with the construction of an underground repository for low and intermediate level waste. Many residents are concerned with this project and its potentially negative impacts, particularly on area groundwater, community character, and on Lake Huron, and wish to be represented in the review process.

On Friday, May 8th the federal government unleashed a Discussion Paper Delivering outlining the next rush to dismantle what remains of environmental assessment (now “impact” assessment following the last set of rollbacks). It will shorten and reduce all assessments, but it will hit nuclear projects particularly hard, handing the assessment process over to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. The Bruce C review is moving to the assessment phase of the federal review, and the first step is to apply for participant funding to support participation in the review of Bruce Power's impact statement (expected in summary 2026) and the public hearing (expected in late spring / early summer 2027).
