We have developed a new Bullying and Harassment Policy we want to share with everyone.
Discrimination, Bullying and Harassment Policy
1. Policy Statement
Westwood Association of Homeowners (WAHO) is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive community free from bullying, harassment, intimidation, and discrimination. All residents, committee members, volunteers, and visitors must be treated with dignity and respect, and everyone has the right to be a part of a community free from harassment.
2. Scope
This policy applies to:
All Homeowners, residents, visitors, contractors and volunteers
All locations, including homes, common areas, vehicles, and during events or activities.
3. Definitions
Bullying
A pattern of repeated, unreasonable, and often persistent behavior directed at an individual or group that creates a risk to health and safety, undermines dignity, or has the potential to cause injury, fear, humiliation, or exclusion. Examples include, but are not limited to:
• Exclusion or isolation of an individual
• Repeated inappropriate jokes or comments about a person
• Spreading rumors or misinformation
• Deliberate undermining of a person’s work or reputation
• Persistent negative feedback that is not constructive or timely
Harassment
Any conduct that demeans, humiliates, or humiliates a person, or that might be considered harassment based on one or more protected grounds under human rights law (see “Protected Grounds” below). Harassment can be physical, verbal, or written, including online conduct. Examples include:
• Demeaning jokes, slurs, or derogatory remarks
• Offensive emails, messages, or social media posts
• Unwanted physical contact or intimidation
• Consistent and unwelcome criticism or belittling of a person’s work
• Protected Grounds (Human Rights Code)
• Harassment or bullying related to:
• Race, national or ethnic origin, color
• Religion or creed
• S*x, gender identity, or sexual orientation
• Age
• Marriage or family status
• Disability or physical or mental disability
• Political belief or activity
• Socioeconomic status
Any other characteristic protected by the British Columbia Human Rights Code
4. Roles and Responsibilities
Homeowners
• Treat others with respect and dignity.
Committee Members
• Model appropriate behavior and uphold the policy.
• Review and update the policy as needed
• Foster a respectful culture.
5. Consequences and Corrective Actions
Depending on the severity and frequency, consequences may include suspension of membership and/or loss of clubhouse privileges.
14. Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed annually or as required by changes in law or organizational needs.
