Epsom & District Caledonian Society

Epsom & District Caledonian Society A group of people who love Scottish dancing. Historically we have aimed to focus on beginners 7.30-8pm, general 8-9pm and Advanced 9-10pm. Not sure?

We are affiliated to the Royal Scottish Country Dancing Society (RSCDS) and belong to a community of Scottish dancing clubs in the area. Epsom & District Caledonian Society warmly invites you to meet with us on Monday evenings in "term time"* for Scottish Country Dancing. However, our teacher Pauline manages to skilfully adapt and tailor our evenings to cater for the differing abilities of dancers

from week to week so these timings are not set in stone. Come along and see what we are all about – there is no charge on your first evening. One of the great things about Scottish Country Dancing is you don’t need to come with a partner as we take it in turns to dance with each other, so it’s a great way to meet new people as well as being fantastic exercise for body and brain! There is no requirement to wear tartan or a kilt, but you will be just as welcome if you do. If you have never danced before, just wear comfortable clothes and shoes (maybe plimsols) and bring a drink / bottle of water to keep hydrated. You can join in to whatever physical level suits you and are free to sit out at any time if you wish. Travel If you are driving there is ample on street as well as car park parking. We meet in the Tweddle Hall, St Andrews Church, Northey Avenue, Cheam SM2 7HF. Trains
Trains run from London Victoria, Sutton, West Croydon, Epsom and points in between to Cheam station. Exit on the ticket office side of the station, go straight ahead and turn left at the T-junction into Upper Mulgrave Road. Just before this goes under a bridge, turn right into Manor Road; follow Manor Road until it merges with Burdon Lane, follow Burdon Lane to the mini-roundabout, turn right and the church is 100 yards on your left. It’s about a 10 minute walk from the station. Train times from National Rail Enquiries. Buses
Several buses service the area from Sutton, Worcester Park, Kingston and further afield go to Cheam Village. From there walk south on Station Road, under the railway bridge, and take the third on the left which is The Avenue and leads you right to the church. Again, this takes about 10 minutes. Details from TfL Journey Planner. The 470 bus, which goes from Colliers Wood and Sutton to Epsom via Northey Avenue will stop right at the church. For details see the timetable. The last bus is around 8pm. For your return journey, we have friendly members who regularly drive and who, if available, will be glad to help you with a lift back to Cheam station or a bus stop in the village at the end of the evening. Please contact us by messenger before you travel so we can confirm we have an available car seat for you. Please check our facebook posts, or with us directly on messenger for term dates. If you have any additional questions, do get in touch and we’ll try to get back to you as soon as possible.

'Skylarks reel', 'Prairie crocus' & 'A special occasion' completed the evening. A rare chance to dance the courage reel in 'A special occasion' (Brenchley).

We meet (most) weeks on a Monday evening in the Tweddle Hall, St Andrews Church in Northey Avenue, Cheam where we welcome newcomers as well as experienced dancers. We also participate in the local dances ‘Tarten Jigsaw’ where local groups across a broad area host a Saturday evening dance.
