Today, on the National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism, we honour and remember all those whose lives have been lost or forever changed by acts of terrorism in Canada and around the world.

This day commemorates the victims of the Air India Flight 182 tragedy on June 23, 1985, one of the deadliest acts of terrorism in Canadian history, which claimed the lives of 329 people, including 280 Canadians. We also remember the victims, survivors, families, and communities affected by other acts of terrorism worldwide.

As we reflect on these tragedies, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering inclusive, safe, and resilient communities built on respect, understanding, and justice.

On World Refugee Day, we recognize the strength, resilience, and courage of millions of people around the world who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution, violence, and human rights violations.
At SALCBC, we remain committed to supporting equitable access to information, resources, and services for newcomers and refugee communities across British Columbia.

Together, we can help build communities where everyone has the opportunity to live with dignity, safety, and belonging.

Today, we recognize the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict and stand in solidarity with survivors around the world.

Conflict-related sexual violence has devastating and lasting impacts on individuals, families, and communities. This day serves as a reminder of the importance of preventing these crimes, supporting survivors, and promoting accountability and justice.

Together, we can raise awareness, advocate for human rights, and work toward a future where all people can live in safety, dignity, and peace.

Today, on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, we stand together to raise awareness about the mistreatment, neglect, and exploitation that many older adults experience.

Every senior deserves to live with dignity, respect, and safety. Elder abuse can take many forms, including financial, emotional, physical, and psychological abuse, and it often goes unreported.

By recognizing the signs, supporting older adults, and speaking up when concerns arise, we can help build safer and more inclusive communities for our elders.

Let’s work together to protect the rights and well-being of seniors and ensure they are treated with the respect they deserve.

Elder abuse is an issue that often goes unrecognized, leaving many older adults vulnerable to harm, neglect, financial exploitation, and isolation.
As part of our commitment to supporting vulnerable community members and raising awareness about elder abuse prevention, SALCBC is sharing resources developed by the Network to Eliminate Violence in Relationships (NEVR). These culturally responsive and accessible resources are available in both English and Punjabi, helping ensure vital information reaches diverse communities across British Columbia.

The toolkit includes:

Ready-to-post social media graphics
Educational videos
Newsletters and blog articles
Quotes, quizzes, and engagement tools
A 12-month social media campaign plan
Resources available in both English and Punjabi
By increasing awareness and understanding of elder abuse, we can all play a role in creating safer, more supportive communities for older adults.

We are pleased to welcome Kuljan Hundal as the new Managing Lawyer at the South Asian Legal Clinic of British Columbia.

As a South Asian lawyer, this role holds deep personal meaning for Kuljan. To now serve a community that has shaped so much of her own identity and upbringing is both humbling and incredibly important to her. Kuljan understands firsthand the cultural, linguistic, financial, and systemic barriers many individuals and families in our communities face when trying to navigate the legal system, and she is proud to be part of an organization dedicated to making legal support more accessible and community-centred.

We are excited for the impact Kuljan will make as she helps advance our ongoing commitment to access to justice.
