💛💚 CSP SURREY SATURDAY POP-UP UPDATE! 💚💛

Another Saturday, another day of showing up for our community! 💪🌿

Today, we provided 151 people with low-barrier access to cannabis through the Cannabis Substitution Project Surrey. Every single person who walks through our doors matters, and every connection is an opportunity to offer support, education, resources, and compassion without judgment.

And the highlight of the day? EVERYONE LOVED OUR NEW MERCH! 💛💚👕 Seeing our community members excited about the shirts and supporting what we do means so much to us!

Every shirt sold helps support our grassroots efforts to reach vulnerable people in our community. We’re not just handing out cannabis — we’re building relationships, creating connections, and meeting people where they’re at.

We believe in harm reduction. We believe in dignity. We believe people deserve options that can help reduce the risks associated with the toxic unregulated drug supply.

Four years of showing up. Four years of community connections. Four years of believing that compassion saves lives. 💚

🌿 REMEMBERING OUR PIONEER — DAVID MALMO-LEVINE

Before cannabis was legal.
Before cannabis was openly discussed as a tool for harm reduction.
Before dispensaries became commonplace.

There were people willing to stand up, speak out, organize, educate, protest and challenge prohibition.

David Malmo-Levine was one of those pioneers.

For decades, David has been a recognizable voice in Vancouver’s cannabis and drug-policy movement. His activism has included cannabis legalization, harm reduction, drug-policy reform, civil disobedience, public education and preserving the history of the cannabis movement.

He helped create spaces where people could learn about cannabis and harm reduction at a time when doing so could mean facing criminal charges. He challenged prohibition in the streets, in the media and in Canada’s courts.

His work became part of the history of R. v. Malmo-Levine, a landmark Supreme Court of Canada case examining the criminal prohibition of cannabis.

He also founded the Herb School and the Herb Museum, helping educate people about cannabis while preserving the stories and history of the movement.

Today, as we work toward new models of cannabis-based harm reduction and cannabis substitution, we should never forget the people who helped pave the road before us.

We stand on the shoulders of the pioneers who came before us.

David Malmo-Levine is one of those pioneers.

🌿💚 FOUR YEARS OF CANNABIS SUBSTITUTION PROJECT SURREY! 💚🌿

Yesterday we celebrated four years of the Cannabis Substitution Project of Surrey — and what a beautiful day it was! 🥳🌿

We were able to feed approximately 175 people with hot dogs, pop, chips, cannabinoids, candy, cookies, and, most importantly, community. ❤️

A HUGE thank you to all of our incredible volunteers who continue to show up week after week. This program simply could not exist without the volunteers and the community that supports it. Your time, energy, compassion, and commitment make CSP Surrey what it is. 🙏💚

A special shout-out to Canadian Lumber and our friend who donated all the candy for us to hand out this week! 🍬❤️

And thank you to Sean, who came out with cookies, candy, and water to share with everyone. 🍪💧

There is something really special about watching everyone come together, share what we have, support one another, and continue doing this work from the grassroots level. 🌱

📣 PETITION UPDATE!

This was also our final week collecting signatures for the petition supporting the creation of a College of Medical Cannabis Dispensers.

We have collected over 300 signatures! 🙌🌿

The petition is expected to go to the House of Commons in November, with Elizabeth May and Ted Smith involved in bringing forward the call for better medical cannabis access and a framework that recognizes and supports the work being done in communities like ours.

Over 300 people adding their voices is an incredible contribution. Every signature represents someone saying that access to medical cannabis, education, compassion, and harm reduction matters.

Four years later, we are still here.
Still showing up.
Still serving our community.
Still fighting for better access.
Still believing that cannabis can save lives. 🌿💚

🌿 Remembering a Pioneer: Jamie Shaw

Today, 420 Grassroots is remembering one of the pioneers who helped pave the way for medical cannabis in Vancouver.

Jamie Shaw was there long before legalization — when patients, compassion clubs and activists were building a movement without the legal protections and mainstream acceptance that exist today.

From her work with the BC Compassion Club Society to her leadership with the Canadian Association of Medical Cannabis Dispensaries, Jamie fought for patient access, education, and recognition of the important role cannabis dispensaries could play in healthcare.

She was also an important witness in the Allard case, helping bring the realities of medical-cannabis patients and dispensaries before the courts.

🌿 Before there was a legal cannabis industry, there were pioneers.

People who took risks.
People who opened doors.
People who stood beside patients.
People who kept pushing when the system said no.

Jamie Shaw is part of that history.

Today, we remember the pioneers — because the work happening now stands on the shoulders of the people who refused to give up.
