Last Sunday our team planted nearly 100 native species in the Strathroy Conservation Area as part of Strathroy's first ever Special Spaces event. Special Spaces events are run each year by members of . The goals of these events are for youth across Ontario to plan and deliver conservation events such as tree planting, cleanups, and invasive species removals within their own communities.
The event we held on Sunday was a riparian planting in the Strathroy Conservation Area along a portion of the Sydenham River that has not yet been naturalized. The goal of our planting was to help prevent riverbank erosion and stop pollutants from entering the water stream and harming the ecosystems that exist there.
Thank you to Friends of the Environment for funding this event, and to for helping us secure a planting site and prepare for the event.
