We are a third of the way through our Christmas Bird Count! Stettler was a blast, with some interesting sightings: several counters saw short-eared owls, a ferruginous hawk, and numerous deer, moose, chickadees, nuthatches, and coyotes.

This coming Sunday (December 21st) we will be doing Buffalo Lake area, which includes the villages of Mirror, Pelican Point, White Sands, and Rochon Sands.

Anyone with bird feeders in this area who wants to take part in the count on Sunday is welcome to join! Please get in touch with our CBC co-ordinator, Karin, at [email protected] to let her know!

Currently, we have enough counters to cover the highlighted areas on the map below. If anyone is still interested in joining any of the counters, please let us know via the email above.

Happy birding!

It's December 1st, and it's getting closer and closer to the annual Christmas Bird Count! ๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿฆ‰๐Ÿฆ†

This is your chance to explore our three top birding spots, discover some amazing species, and help gather important data for Bird Studies Canada and the National Audubon Society.

It's not just one day, but three different days of science and fun, all the while enjoying the beauty of winter in the Stettler area, around Buffalo Lake, and along the beautiful Red Deer River. ๐Ÿชถ

If you are interested in participating, there's still plenty of time! For more details, please contact Karin, our main CBC co-ordinator at [email protected].

We also have more info on our website https://buffalolakenature.com/christmas-bird-count to see the maps of what areas we cover. If you live within any of the circles and want to participate, please get in touch with us (or Karin) to get more information on what you can do and so that we can get your name on the list!

Don't forget to bundle up and bring your binoculars or camera. Pictures are always worth sharing... especially if you find something interesting! ๐Ÿ’š
