May is Mental Health Awareness Month 🧠

In any given year, 1 in 5 people in Canada are living with a mental illness.

By age 40, about half of Canada’s population will have or have had a mental illness, and in their lifetime:

➡️14% of people in Canada will experience major depressive disorder.

➡️13.3% of people in Canada will experience general anxiety disorder.

➡️3.4% of people in Canada will experience bipolar disorder.

➡️About 21.6% of Canadians (six million people) will experience a substance use disorder.

➡️Eating disorders affect about one million Canadians (between 0.3-1% of the population). They impact women at a rate ten times that of men and have the highest rate of mortality of any mental illness.

May is Mental Health Awareness month and we’ve decided to try something a little different!

For the first time we are going to run sessions (yes multiple!) virtually over the course of the month.

Each session will focus on a different mental health topic and feature guests with lived experience, who will share their insight into the subject and answer questions gathered from the community prior to the event.

Here’s what we need from you.

We have a list of topics we’ve put together from previous session feedback, but we’d really like to hear what you, our community members, would like to see.

So comment or DM us with what would hold the most value for you over Mental Health Awareness month. Let’s try out this new format together!

P.S. June’s in person panel event is nearly ready to go, you’ll be hearing more about that in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
