On August 1, Scouts and Scouters around the world wear their neckerchief with pride to celebrate the beginning of the Scouting Movement. It marks the anniversary of the first experimental Scout Camp, held by Lord Baden-Powell on Brownsea Island in 1907.

On Saturday, August 1st, wear your scarf (aka neckerchief) and show your Scouting Spirit.

Fun, adventure, and maybe a few s'mores made for a great weekend at our Beaver Colony's end-of-year camp.

Our first year back was filled with learning new skills, exploring the outdoors, making new friends, giving back to our community, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. We couldn't be prouder of everything our youth accomplished this year.

A huge thank you to our volunteers, parents, and supporters who helped make this year such a success.

Registration for the 2026-2027 Scouting year is now open. Programs begin in September, and we'd love to welcome new youth and families to join the adventure.

Looking for an activity that helps kids build confidence, make friends, learn new skills, and have fun outdoors?

1st St. John's West Scout Group is now welcoming new members for September 2026!

Beavers (Grades K-2, Ages 5-7)
Thursdays, 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM

Cubs (Grades 3-5, Ages 8-10)
Thursdays, 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM

Meetings are held at St. Matthew's School, 119 Cowan Avenue.

Annual membership is $295, plus $2 per week in dues. Weekend camps are typically $20-$30.

We're also looking for adult volunteers. No previous Scouting experience is required. Online training is provided.

Our Beaver Colony completed a community cleanup tonight around our meeting location as part of a community project selected by our White Tails for their North Star Award - the highest award a Beaver can earn.

Through teamwork, leadership, and service, these young Beavers made a positive impact in our community. We are proud of their hard work and dedication. Well done, Beavers!

A huge THANK YOU to all the amazing volunteers who make 1st St. John’s West Scout Group possible. Your time, energy, and dedication create meaningful experiences and lasting memories for our youth.

Special thanks to our Beaver Section Scouters and Adult Helpers for inspiring our youngest members, and to our Group Committee for keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

And to our families - thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement.

Our Beaver Colony had a great day at camp yesterday. A short hike into camp, roasting hot dogs over the fire for lunch, and shelter building were on the agenda. Plus lots of laughs and memories 🙂

This week, our Beavers and Scouters will receive their new Scout Group crest for their uniforms.

Our new design (bottom) is a nod to our original Group crest (top), which features a Scout Stetson hat, the fleur-de-lis, and the Scout Motto: Be Prepared.
