Who We Are
The Canadian Progress Club – St. The Canadian Progress Club has no international affiliations and it is a non-fraternal organization dedicated to assisting local communities and the country as a whole. Both nationally and locally Canadian Progress Club prides itself in being successful in its efforts to help those who need it the most. Today, the Canadian Progress Club – St. John’s raises approximately $100,000 annually and the Clubs’ funds are donated primarily to our two major charities, The Vera Perlin Society and Special Olympics Newfoundland & Labrador. Since 1986, the Canadian Progress Club – St. John’s has donated in excess of $2 million to our charities. What We Do
The Canadian Progress Club conducts several fundraising events throughout the year, the largest of which are our two annual benefit auctions in June and December. As well, we sell turkeys at Christmas time, tickets on local artwork, and various other smaller projects. In addition to fundraising, the Club provides a number of clients from the Vera Perlin Society and Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador with Christmas and Easter Hampers, Halloween and Christmas Dances, and the very popular Annual Bowling Tournament in April. The Canadian Progress Club has two goals: to provide our charities with financial support and to organize a variety of quality social events. Highlights
Over the past 35 years the Canadian Progress Club – St. John’s has grown from a small club of 15 members to a roster of 40 members today. We have hosted three National Conventions in St. John’s and Canadian Progress Club – St. John’s has won the prestigious Canadian Progress Club National Presidents Award four times. This is the highest honour a Club can receive. John’s Club has also received the 1994 Atlantic Regional Award for Philanthropy presented by the Canadian Society of Fundraising Executives. Over the last two decades, our goals and ideas have remained the same. John’s continues to work for the betterment of the community as a whole. The role of the Canadian Progress Club - St. John’s and our various affiliates across the country is best summed up in one quote from the Mission Statement of the Canadian Progress Club, “To show by leadership and example the pride of being Canadian”. This explains our motto – “It’s Great to be a Canadian”.
