The City of Mount Pearl is lighting up City Hall with purple and blue this evening in recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)!

We are proud to take part in Light It Up! for NDEAM, a nationwide initiative that recognizes the contributions people with disabilities make to workplaces, businesses, and communities across Canada.

LIGHT IT UP FOR NDEAM!

Today, we celebrate Light It Up for National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)!

This is a time to recognize and celebrate all the amazing clients we have employed throughout our communities and the valuable contributions they make every day. We are so proud of the hard work, dedication, and talents they bring to their workplaces and communities!

If you join us in lighting it up or wearing blue and purple today, we would love for you to send us a picture so we can share it and celebrate with you!

If you didn’t get a chance to participate, that’s okay, too! At the end of the day, what matters most is how we treat one another. When you see a person with a disability giving it their all at work or making a difference in their community, take a moment to let them know they are valued, appreciated, and making a difference.

Inclusion is more than wearing a colour for a day. It’s about creating communities where everyone belongs, everyone has opportunities, and everyone’s contributions matter.

Let’s continue to celebrate abilities, recognize talents, and build a world where everyone has the opportunity to shine!

October is Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM)

🔷 Did you know that 1 in 5 Canadians in the workforce (21%) experience some form of disability?

🟣Disabilities can affect mobility, vision, hearing, learning, development or mental health.
Some are non-apparent, like arthritis and chronic pain. Some can be temporary or episodic, like migraines or grief.

🔷 Inclusive workplaces remove barriers and give people with disabilities equitable opportunities to find employment, contribute and succeed.

🟣On October 15, the Town Hall will light up in purple and blue for “Light It Up! For NDEAM” to raise awareness about disability-inclusive employment.
