Today we stand in solidarity and remembrance. π―
Red Dress Day, held on May 5, is a National Day of remembrance and activism honouring the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirited People (MMIWG2S+)
This day serves as a powerful reminder of the need to recognize and address the violence still faced by many in Canada today. 1620 and our Women's Committee hope to raise more awareness to this important nationwide issue. There are many ways we can recognize and honour Red Dress Day.
π Wear Red: a red dress, shirt, or other red clothing to show solidarity.
π Hang Red Dresses: in windows, on doors, or in outdoor spaces to symbolize the absence of those missing and murdered.
π Learn and Reflect: take time to explore the history, listen to stories and understand ongoing impacts.
π Support Indigenous Organizations: donate to or volunteer with Indigenous-led organizations.
π Share on Socials: post information, photos, and messages using hashtags like those below.
