Last week, NCANL honoured an invitation to Government House for a reception to mark Black History Month, hosted by Her Honour, Joan Aylward, ONL, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador. Her Honour warmly received the Association and acknowledged NCANL’s impactful role in community building, cultural representation, and inclusion within the province.
The Association was represented by the President, Public Relations Officer (PRO), and Secretary, alongside other invited Nigerians. During the reception, NCANL engaged with Hon. Lin Paddock, Minister of Immigration, Jobs and Growth, Rural Development, and Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs. The delegation was also introduced to Aisling Gogan, Associate Deputy Minister for Immigration. Productive discussions were held on key immigration-related challenges affecting members of the Nigerian community, and the Ministry indicated openness to a dedicated engagement session with the community.
Special recognition was given to Bolu Ogunyemi, with appreciation extended to the Ogunyemi family for their notable contributions to the province by Senator Mohamed Ravalia .
We celebrate and appreciates all Blacks whose positive impact continues to strengthen the social and cultural fabric of Newfoundland and Labrador.
