🎣Memorial Fishing Derby 2026 (Honoring Norman Basque) - Congratulations & Thanks🎣

The 2026 Potlotek Memorial Fishing Derby has come to an end, congratulations to all our winners! Doreen Pottie, 1st place winner, received her $10,000 cheque this morning!

🎣 🐟 Day 1 of the Potlotek memorial fishing derby is now closed. 🎣 🐟

Day 2 starts tomorrow at 6am for adults only. (Catch the first fish tomorrow morning and win $250.00)
Update on biggest fish, Craig Doucette holds the lead with a 13 1/2 inch trout. 🐠
4 out of 5 tagged fish have been caught. 🐟

Youth division has concluded, we had a lot of very happy children today that won great prizes . To the children that were not present, all the prizes will be saved for pickup at a later time or during the day tomorrow at the fishery dome 😊. See photos below of 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners. 🏆

Bbq will be up and running at around 11am, come on out and support our Quebec trip fundraiser.

🎟️ Lastly, tickets will be available for sale all day at the fishery dome right until closing at 6pm. Cash or Etransfer is available for anyone wishing to purchase, you do not have to be present to win. For etransfer, send to [email protected] and leave name and number on the message section. 🎣

🎣Memorial Fishing Derby 2026: Final Announcements🎣

Only one more sleep until we drop lines into the water! Reminder that tickets can be purchased early at the Band Office to avoid the 6am rush. Cash can be brought to the Band Office until 4:00pm today, or until 6:00pm on Sunday either at the derby or etransfer [email protected].

New This Year: First fish caught! Those who catch the first fish of the day (fish must be held up in hand to be considered caught) & register it with one of the workers will receive $250.00! First fish caught prizes will be awarded on both Saturday & Sunday.

Finally, as previously announced, 5 tagged fish will be present on Saturday & Sunday. There will be a prize pool of $500.00 for these tagged fish. If only 1 tagged fish is caught all weekend, the catcher will win all $500.00! If all 5 fish are caught, the prize will be evenly split 5 ways. Both of these special features are sponsored by Jimmy & Dawn Marshall.

🔊MNFC: Motive Power Trades Cohort🔊

The Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre will be holding a 24-week motive power trades cohort starting September 7, 2026! 20 Indigenous participants will get hands-on training in mechanical trades, safety certifications, paid work placements, & more! There will also be a virtual information session on June 23 & 24!
