Carter has always admired Terry Fox.

He has recognized from a young age how difficult cancer was, and how incredible Terry was working to raise money for cancer. That perseverance to keep going even when it's hard has been an inspiring lesson for Carter.

Terry is now running on a part of the Trans-Canada Highway that will be renamed the Terry Fox Courage Highway. Later, when Terry reflects on his Marathon of Hope, he says, “Through my whole run I thought about the meaning of life. It’s not wealth... and it’s not fame... On my run when I got emotional, it was because I was happy.”
