Witsuwit’en Language Programming – Fall 2026

Speak our language. Strengthen our future.

Community Language & Culture is preparing for our Fall 2026 Witsuwit’en Language Program, and we are currently gathering Expressions of Interest from community members who may be interested in participating.

We are exploring two learning streams:

Language Exposure Class:
For learners wanting to build their exposure to Witsuwit’en, learn from fluent speakers, strengthen listening and speaking skills, and connect language with culture, stories, and community.

Intensive Language Course:
For learners ready to make a stronger commitment to developing their Witsuwit’en language skills through more intensive and consistent learning.

Please note that Expressions of Interest is not registration; Expressions of Interest will help CLC understand community demand, learner needs, and which program stream people are most interested in as we finalize program planning.

Whether you are just beginning, returning to the language, or looking to strengthen what you already know, we want to hear from you.

We were grateful to have the opportunity to join in on this training with our neighbours.

We’re so honoured to have had the opportunity to train with Adriana Ramirez, an amazing language teacher, trainer and consultant whose work brings together TPRS, Second Language Acquisition, Comprehensible Input with so many practical strategies and techniques for language teaching!

It’s exciting to see our language workers continuing to build their teaching skills, learn different approaches, and strengthen our collective capacity. Over the past year especially, we’ve been so fortunate to have access to some incredible language training opportunities and are happy to see our dedicated language workers continuing to show up, learn, experiment and put these methods into practice.

We were also very grateful to have our language friends join us again from Witset and Kitsumkalum. We really value opportunities to learn alongside our neighbouring communities and Nations. Language revitalization doesn’t happen in isolation. We all move forward when we work together ❤️

Thank you again to Adriana Ramirez for sharing your knowledge, experience and enthusiasm with us. We’re excited to take what we learned and put it to work in our own language classrooms and programs!

She’s has some great resources on her website and YouTube page for those that weren’t able to attend the training or for other language communities who may be interested in bringing the training to their respective communities.

We’ve had a few questions about the Witsuwit’en Tent at the BVX this year and wanted to share a quick update.

In previous years, the Witsuwit’en Tent has been made possible through grant funding secured for the event done so by the BVX committee. CLC was then invited to participate and help coordinate local Witsuwit’en artists, makers and vendors for the tent.

There is quite a bit of advance planning involved, including confirming vendors, completing registration requirements, gathering vendor and product information, coordinating staffing, and arranging setup and takedown.

This year, CLC has not been coordinating a Witsuwit’en Tent for the BVX, so we wanted to clarify for anyone who may be wondering or waiting to hear from us.

We are grateful to have been involved with the Witsuwit’en Tent at the BVX over the years and look forward to what the future has in store. We love seeing Witsuwit’en artists, makers and businesses represented and sharing their work with the wider community. The 2025-2026 class of the Witsuwit’en Proficiency Building Program is hosting a Loonie Auction Fundraiser. All proceeds will go towards their year end trip to celebrate all of the work they have put into lifting up the Witsuwit’en language.

$10 = Chilli + Jello Dessert + Drink
Food will be ready by 12pm
